BUILDING PERMIT ISSUANCE TIME FRAME
If this permit requires a Town of Vail Fire Department Approval, Engineer's (Public Works)
review and approval, a Planning Department review or Health Department review, and a
review by the Building Department, the estimated time for a total review may take up to
six (6) weeks.
All commercial (large or small) and all multi-family permits will have to follow the above
mentioned maximum requirements. Residential and small projects should take a lesser
amount of time. However, if residential or smaller projects impact the various above
mentioned departments with regard to necessary review, these projects may take up to
six (6) weeks to review and approve.
Every attempt will be made by this department to expedite this permit as soon as
possible.

STATUS OF COMPLETION:
On July 11,2006 I visited the above residence to observe the two new headers in line with the interior bearing wall.
Each header consisted of (3)-1 3/4 x 11 7/8 LVL's over an approximate 24" opening. The header at the plumbing
fixtures had (1)-2x6 trimmer on each side,and the header at the tub mechanical access had(2)-2x6 trimmers each side.
These headers are structurally adequate for the design loads imposed.

At the request of Roy from Border Construction, we have reviewed and approve the following changes:
-Based on experience with units we have previously observed (Building D, Units 166 and 360), the joists of the
second floor(above#160) run from the wall between the kitchen side of the unit and the hallway. The open web
joists (wood flanges, metal chords) continue over a bearing line approximately 5'-3" from the inside face of the
kitchen wall and out to the exterior wall. Therefore, modifying the location and or span of the beam above the
opening between the kitchen and the existing dining area, spanning from the entry bench to the corner of the
bathroom,would require verifying the bearing locations and footing locations.
-A beam in line with the existing beam and wall between the entry bench and the living area, spanning from the
partition wall to the assumed existing bearing point at the corner of the bathroom would have the following
approximate characteristics:
Length = 13'-3"
Distributed Live Load =480 plf
Distributed Dead Load = 300 plf
Excluding any point loads from the floors above (verify the point loads from above), the beam required is a 5
1/8x12 Glue-Lam, with (3)-2x4's at each end.
Please field verify all the above assumptions during demolition before completing construction. Let us know if
you have any questions.

At the request of Roy from Border Construction, we have reviewed and approve the following changes:
-Based on experience with units we have previously observed (Building D, Units 166 and 360), the joists of the
second floor(above#160) run from the wall befinreen the kitchen side of the unit and the hallway. The open web
joists (wood flanges, metal chords) continue over a bearing line approximately 5'-3" from the inside face of the
kitchen wall and out to the exterior wall. Therefore, modifying the location and or span of the beam above the
opening between the kitchen and the existing dining area, spanning from the entry bench to the corner of the
bathroom,would require verifying the bearing locations and footing locations.
-A beam in line with the existing beam and wall between the entry bench and the living area, spanning from the
partition wall to the assumed existing bearing point at the corner of the bathroom would have the following
approximate characteristics:
Length = 13'-3"
Distributed Live Load =480 plf
Distributed Dead Load = 300 pif
Excluding any point loads from the floors above (verify the point loads from above), the beam required is a 5
1/8x12 Glue-Lam, with (3)-2x4's at each end.
Please field verify all the above assumptions during demolition before completing construction. Let us know if
