. BUILDING DEPARTMENT COMMENTS:
1 The memorandum of understandmg dated October 16, 2006 indicates the existing floor/ceiling
assemblies do not meet a one hour assembly Based on the extent of these re-models the existing
floor/ceiling assemblies are required to meet one hour requirements Provide a listed one hour floor
ceiling assembly that these floor/cedmgs will be constructed to (IBC Table 601 and 711 3)
Ali of the units except for unit 145 will not require ceiling replacement Unit 145 is adding significant
lighting that will require the maJority of that ceiling to be removed The ceiling will be replaced utilizing
detail B/2 607 (attached) All other units wili oniy require minor cutting and patching to fish wire or
ductwork Trenching for sprinkler and alarm runs will also be utilized so as not to require significant
ceiling work Units that previously were top floor in the existing buiidings do not require ceiling
replacement because their ceilings are not fire rated The fire separation occurs at the new structural
floor for the new units above thereby making the existing roof act as a suspended non-rated ceiling
2 Provide ceilmg radiation dampers at all the new bath fan penetrations of the rated floor/ceiling assembly
The exception quoted on the plans does not apply to the situation presented (IBC 716 6 2)
Please reference the revised plans Exhaust fans with integral louvers shall be provided for all existing
units except for those at what was the previous top level (below the new structural floor for the new
units) Since the fire separation occurs at this new structural floor and the existing building old roof
structure now acts as only a non rated drop ceiling, duct runs, fans and lights into this ceiling need not be
rated and openings need not be protected
3 Provide a method of protecting the floor/ceiling membrane at the incandescent lights (IBC 712 4 2)
Please reference the revised plans Lights shall be protected with 1-hour drywall enclosures in the same
fashion that the new units are currently being protected and using the same detail
4 Provide fire-stopping details for the new tub drains, plumbing pipes and electrical wiring (IBC 712 4 2)
The items mentioned and any other observed penetrations shall be protected and firestopped per
specification section 07841 (attached) of the Manor Vail specification and by a qualified installer
5 Show location of all dryer vents on the drawings Some are entirely new, some are re-routed and some
are remaining the same (IMC 504 6 2)
Please reference the revised plans Dryer vent routing is shown for units with existing or new dryers
6 Provide 100 square inches of make-up air for the dryers in the closets (IMC 504 5)
Please reference the revised plans Doors to closets or rooms housing dryers shall be replaced with
doors containing a 100 square inch louver
Please refer to the cover sheet for information and instructions for resubmitting plans. In order to avoid delays please
check all requested information is included with the resubmitted plans.

of developmg optimum bond wrth through-penetration firestop systems Remove loose
particles remammg from cleanmg operation
3 Remove laitance and form-release agents from concrete
B Pnmmg. Prime substrates where recommended m wrrtmg by through-penetration firestop
system manufacturer usmg that manufacturer's recommended products and methods. Confine
primers to areas of bond,do not allow spillage and migration onto exposed surfaces
C Maskmg Tape Use maskmg tape to prevent through-penetration firestop systems from
contactmg adoining surfaces that will remain exposed on completion of Work and that would
otherwise be permanently stained or damaged by such contact or by cleamng methods used to
remove smears from firestop system materials. Remove tape as soon as possible wrthout
disturbmg firestop system's seal with substrates
3 3 THROUGH-PENETRATION FIRESTOP SYSTEM INSTALLATION
A General• Install through-penetration firestop systems to comply with Part 1 "Performance
Requirements" Article and wrth firestop system manufacturer's written installation instructions
and published drawmgs for products and applications mdicated
B Install formmg/dammmg/backmg materials and other accessories of types required to support
iiii materials during their application and in the position needed to produce cross-sectional
shapes and depths required to achieve fire rahngs mdicated.
1. After mstallmg fill materials and allowmg them to fully cure, remove combustible
formmg materials and other accessories not mdicated as permanent components of
firestop systems
C Install fill materials for firestop systems by proven techmques to produce the followmg results
1 Fill voids and cavrties farmed by openmgs, formmg materials, accessories, and
penetratmg rtems as required to achieve fire-resistance ratmgs mdicated
, 2 Apply materials so they contact and adhere to substrates formed by opemngs and
penetratmg items
3 For fill materials that will remain exposed after completmg Work, fimsh to produce
. smooth, umform surfaces that are flush wrth adommg fimshes.

3 4 IDENTIFICATION
A Identify through-penetration firestop systems with preprmted metal or plastic labels Attach
labels permanently to surfaces adacent to and wrthm 6 inches (10 mm) of edge of the firestop
' systems so that labels will be visible to anyone seekmg to remove penetratmg rtems or firestop
systems Use mechamcal fasteners for metal labels. For plastic labels, use self-adhermg type
wrth adhesives capable of permanently bondmg labels to surfaces on which labels are placed
and, in combmahon wrth label material, will result m partial destruction of label if removal is
attempted Include the followmg mformation on labels.
1 The words "Warning - Through-Penetration Firestop System - Do Not Disturb Notify
Buildmg Management of Any Damage "
2 Contractor's name, address, and phone number
3 Through-penetration firestop system designation of applicable testmg and inspectmg
agency
4 Date of installation
5 Through-penetration firestop system manufacturer's name
6 Installer's name
3 5 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A Inspectmg Agency Owner will engage a qualified, mdependent mspectmg agency to mspect
through-penetration firestops Independent mspectmg agency shall comply with ASTM E 2174
requirements includmg those related to qualifications, conductmg mspections, and preparmg
test reports.
B Where deficiencies are found, repair or replace through-penetration firestop systems so they
comply with requirements
C Proceed with enclosing through-penetrahon firestop systems wrth other construction only after
mspection reports are issued and firestop mstallations comply wrth requirements
3 6 CLEANING AND PROTECTING
A Clean off excess fill materials adacent to opemngs as Work progresses by methods and with
cleanmg matenals that are approved m wrrtmg by through-penetration firestop system
manufacturers and that do not damage materials m which opemngs occur
B. Provide final protection and mamtam condrtions durmg and after mstallation that ensure that
through-penetration firestop systems are without damage or deterioration at time of Substantial
Completion If, despite such protection, damage or deterioration occurs, cut out and remove
damaged or deteriorated through-penetration firestop systems immediately and mstall new
materials to produce systems complying wrth specified requirements
