Dear Town of Vail Department of Community Development,
The attached Minor Exterior Alteration Application for Design Review submittal
is a joint submittal from Wolfgang Dorner and me covering portions of our
adjacent properties at 1424 and. 1426 Moraine Dr. in Vail. We are doing a joint
submittal because two of ttre trees in question are on our joint property line and
therefore joinfly owned.
I am acting for Wolfgang Dorner (1424 Moraine Dr.) at his request since he is
currenfly out of town. His signed r jmited Power of Attorney authorizing me to
act for him in this matter is attached.
My property (1426 Moraine Dr.) is owned by the Headley Revocable Trust of
which my wife Judy and I are the trustees with authority to act independenfly.
Judy is in support of this application.
In summar5l, our plan for which we are requesting your approval is to:
o Remove 5 cottonwood trees between our two properties
r Remove 1 spruce tree on our joint property line . Plant 2 aspen trees on Mr. Dorner's property
r Plant I- aspen tree on my property
r Add a 3 to 4 foot diameter rock on my property.
The cottonwood trees to be removed were planted by the builder too close to our
houses and joint driveway and their roots are endangering our foundations and
the driveway. The trees were also planted to close togettrer by the builder so
they do not have strllicient room to grow. The fle cottonwood trees to be
removed are noted on the attached plot plans as Cl through C5 in red ink.
The spruce tree to be removed was planted by the builder too close to our joint
driveway. Its roots are endangering our driveway and the canopy is beginning
to interfere with getting in and out of our garage. The spruce is not thriving
well. It is noted as 51 on the attached plot plans in red ink.
The three aspen trees we would like to plant on our properties and the rock I
would like to add on my property are noted on ttre attached plot plans as A1
through A3 and Rl in blue ink. Given the other bushes and trees on our
properties in the immediate area (marked in black ink) and the space available,
we beliwe the new trees and rock will make for an excellent landscape design.
The design u/ill have a natura.l lmking appearance using trees that grow
naturally in that environment. The design will provide softening to the exterior
view of the houses wittrout endangering our houses or driveway.
