BUILDING PERMIT ISSUANCE TIME FRAME
If this permit requires a Town of Vail Fire Depaftment Approval, Engineer's (Public Works)
review and approval, a Planning Department review or Health Department review, and a review
by the Building Department, the estimated time for a total review will take as long as three (3)
weeKS.
All commercial (large or small) and all multi-family permits will have to follow the above
mentioned maximum requirements. Residential and small projects should take a lesser amount
of time. However, if residential or smaller projects impact the various above mentioned
depaftments with regard to necessary review, these projects may also take three (3) weeks to
review and approve.
Every attempt will be made by this department to expedite this permit as soon as possible.

Assumed allowable soil bearing pressure = 1500 psf
The following items need to be incorporated into the deck design:
1. The beam at the outer edge of the deck, spanning east-west between the two posts that are 13'$" apart
needs to be a 3 1/8 x 12 glue-lam. lt should be connected to the 6x6 cedar posts at each end with a Simpson
EPC46 post cap. The double 2x12 beam running north-south along the west side of the deck should also be
connected to the 6x6 cedar posts with Simpson PC46 or EPC46 post caps.
2. Typicaljoist hangers for the 2x12 joists should be Simpson LUS210.
3. Joist hangers for the double 2x12 edge joists and the double 2x12 beam extending to the west from the
corner of the house should be Simpson LUS210-2.
4. The 2x12 ledger should be attached to the existing rim with (2)-3/4" diameter x 3" lags spaced at 16" on
center, or use "Fastenmaster Ledgerlock" screws, 2 rows spaced at 8" on center each row. Verify that the
existing rim is a solid member '1 1/2" thick (not just plywood or l-joist material) or additional blocking may need to
be added.
5. The two footings at the north edge of the deck, supporting the glue-lam beam above, need to be 2 -0" x 2'-0"
x 10" thick. The other two footings should be 1 '€" x 1 '€" x 1 0" thick. The 8" diameter concrete piers should be
reinforced with (2)+5 vertical dowels full height, with a 6" horizonEl leg in the footing. No other footing
reinforcement is required. The top of the piers should extend 8" above grade and the boftom of the footings
should be 48" below grade.
6. The 6x6 posts should have Simpson 4866 post bases.
