PUBLIC WORKS PERMIT PROCESS How it relates to Building Permits: 1) Fill out our check list provided with a buildino oermit aoolication. lf yes was answered to any of the above questions. then a "public way" is required. You can pick up an application at either community Development, located at 75 S. Frontage Road or Public Works, located at 13d9 Vait Vittey Drive. 2) Notice sign offs for utility companies. All utilities must field verify (locate) respective utilities prior to signing application. Some utility companies require up to a 48 hour notice to schedule a locate. 3) A construction traffic controUstaging plan must be prepared on a separate sheet of paper.An approved site plan may also be used. this ptan willshor locations of all traffic control devices(signs, cones, etc..) and the work zone, (area of construction, staging, etc..). This plan will.expire on oct. 1sth. and will'need to be resubmitted for approvalthrough the winter. 4) Qketch of work bging performed must be submitted indicating dimensions (tength, width & depth of work). This may be drawn on the traffic 6ontrot ptan oi a iiteplan for the job. 5) Submit completed application to the Public Works's office for review. lf required, locates will be scheduled for the Town of Vail Eiectricians and lrrigation crew. Ttre locates take place in the morning but, may require up to 4g nows to perform. 6) The Public Work's Construction Inspector will review the application and approve or disapprove the permit. You will be contacted as to the siatus and any that may needed. Most permits are released within 48 hours of being received, but ptease allow up to one we6k to process. 7) As soon as the permit is processgd, a copy will be faxed to community Development allowing the "Building Permif to be released. The damper plate hole should never be blocked on all JVT models. 5. The lield assembly is now complete. The boiler is ready for waler, gas and electrical connections and venting installation. 6. Do not modify the automatic vent damper device. lt is very important that no other vents are closed. Provide at least six inches clearance between the automalic vent damper and combustible construction, and be sure to allow access lor servicing the damper. Note: ln Canada, the vent damper is optional. 1D. Flow Requirements All high recovery, low volume water boilers must have adequate flow for efficient operation. Pump selection is critical to this goal, and pumps should be selected to provide lor system design waler temperalure rise. Table 1 details temperalure rise and water flow (GPM) for the Mini-Therm boilers. Damage from improper flow is nol warranted. Failure to insure proper water f low through the heat exchanger ol the boiler will void lhe Teledyne Laars warranty. Flow can be verified by measuring the difference in waler lemperatures between the boiler inlet and outlet. For example: For a JV-100 installation, the inlet waler lemperature is 160'F, and lhe outlet lemperature is 180'F. That means there is a 20 degree temperature rise through the boiler. According to Table 1, that would indicate a flow rate ol B GPM. Other factors to be considered belore selecting a pump are pipe srze, lhe number of fitlings throughout the syslem, smoothness of the interior surface of the pipe, the quantity ol water llowing lhrough the pipe, whether a glycol solution is being used,and the total length of piping in lhe syslem. Table 2 can help in making that determinalion. 1E. Boiler Placement The boiler must be placed to provide clearances on all sides for maintenance and inspection. There musl also be minimum distances maintained from combustible surfaces. At least 15" access must be available in front oJ the boiler for burner removal. Consult local codes for clearances to hot water pipes and accessories. lf the boiler is to be installed in a garage, all burners and burner ignition devices must have a minimum 18" clearance above the floor. The Model JV-50 through JV-225 boilers can be installed in a closet, as long as lhe minimum clearances shown in Table 3 are observed. Special attention should be paid to clearances belween the front of the boiler and the closet door when it is closed. Consult the American National Standard 221.13 tor more inlormation concerning closet installalions. In Canada, refer to the latest edition of CAN/CGA-B149.1 and 2. IMPORTANT: The boiler shall be installed on a lloor of non-combustible construction with non-combuslible flooring and surface tinish and with no combustible materials against the underside, or on firc-rcsistant s/abs or arches having no combustible materials against the underside unless lisled for installation on a combustible floor. All boilers must be installed on a non-combustible surface. That means a surface not capable of being ignited and burning, such as surfaces consisting entirely of a combination of steel, iron, brick, tile, concrete, slate, '6" tor Models JV-160 to JV-225 glass or plaster. All boilers can be installed on a combuslible floor if a non-combustible base assembly, available from Teledyne Laars, is used. See the boiler rating plate for the appropriate base part number. Boilers must never be inslalled on carpeting. As an alternative to the Teledyne Laars non- combustible base plate, the National Fuel Code allows a boiler lo be placed on other than a non-combustible surface when such an installation complies with the American Insurance Code. This code specifies the surface under the boiler be protected wrth hollow masonry no less than 4" lhick, covered wilh sheel metal al least 24 ga. in thickness. Such masonry must be laid with ends unsealed, and joints matched in such a way as to provide a free circulation of air from side to side through the masonry. See Figure 3. 1F. Gas Supply and Piping Review the lollowing instructions before proceeding with the installation. 1. Verify that the boiler is fitted for lhe proper type of gas by checking the rating plate. Teledyne Laars boilers are normally equipped to operale below a 2000 foot altitude. Boilers equipped to operate at higher altitudes have appropriate stickers or tags attached (next to the rating plate). 2. Use the figures in Table 4 to provide adequate gas piping kom the gas meler to the boiler.
