Temporary Tent Permit - Submittal Requirements
Town of Vail
Vehicular delivery and emergency access
. Tent delivery will take place at the base of Golden Peak via Vail Associates
Snowcat.
. Emergency access will be via the Golden Peak base area. Tents will be set up
approx. 150-200 yards above Golden PeakLodge.
Date of installation and breakdown
. Tents will be delivered and installed on Wednesday, January 10, 2001 for the
SpeedXeventthatwilltakeplaceonSaturday,January 13,2001. Breakdownwilltake
place after the event on Saturday.
. Tents will be delivered and installed on Monday, February 5,2001 for the U.S.
Freeskiing Open event that will take place Thursday through Sunday, February 8-l l,
2001. Breakdown will take place after the event on Sunday.
Cost of the installation estimate
. There will be no outside cost since Highline Sports & Entertainment owns all
equipment involved (tents, flooring, heaters, etc.). Highline Sports & Entertainment
personnel will construct and breakdown all equipment.
Occupancy load proposed
. Tents will be utilized for VIP personnel for distribution of food and alcohol. In
addition, a limited number of tables and seating will be used for sit-down eating and
entertaining. Occupancy shall not exceed what Town of Vail Fire Code permits.
Description ofall electricity, gas, heating and lighting that is proposed
. We anticipate no needs for electricity, however, limited electricity may be used
for food catering. We anticipate that food will be kept warm with TOV Fire Code-
approved Stemo heattns cans.
. Gas for tent heater will be stored in one (l) or two (2) 100 lbs. propane
cylinders, which will be anchored to tongue of cargo box trailer or area fencing
reinforced with steel re-bar to prevent tanks from tipping over. A TOV Fire Code
approved hosing (minimum 6 to l0-feet) will link tanks and heating unit.
. Heating unit is a model TS-80 - 80,000 Btu heater that uses a 4"x15" diffuser.
This heater is specifically designed for tent use and is the industry standard.
. Lighting will consist of eight (8) florescent Coleman battery-powered lanterns
(four for each tent). Lighting will only be used for the U.S. Freeskiing Open Big Air
event on Saturday, February 10, 2001 from dusk until 9 p.m. In addition, eight trailer
lights distributed throughout the base area and lower portions of Golden Peak will
provide lighting for the area. All other events will end before dark.
Flooring
. Flooring will consist of fire-code approved nylon carpet laid atop a flat area of
groomed snow.

Thanks for your assistance on the temporary tent perrdt application process.
Highline Sports & Entertainment Inc. will produce numerous events in the Vail Valley
for the 2001 winter season, including the Vail Speed X, Jan. 13 and the U.S. Freeskiing
Open, Feb 8-11 that utilize our 20x20-foot and 20x40-foot heated tent setup.
In addition, we may also have a couple of evonts during March and April that require use
of our 20x20 tents - most, if not all, will take place at the Golden Peak base area.
The following pages will address the questions asked for the temporary tent permit
application, including tent size and layout; delivery, omergency access and fire code
requirements.

Portable Gas Fired
Heaters
Simplicity
L.B. White tent heaters are easy to set up and even
easier to operate. The heaters use L.B. White's
direct spark ignition system for dependable start
up. Just place the toggle switch to heat, set the
thermostat, and the Premier heaters will do the
rest. A remote thermostat with a 20 foot cord
allows easy temperature adjusnnent whether the
heater is inside or outside the tent. A self-
diagnostic control system and LED make it
easy to identiff and correct any problems.
Safety
The Premier 80 and 170 are the proven market
leaders for tent heating. The Premier heaters are
design certified by Intemational Approval Services
to the stringent standards of both the American
Gas Association and Canadian Gas Association for
portable, temporary heating. These certifications
ensure that your Premier heater will meet or
exceed industry standards for safety and quality
of construction. An agency report evaluating the
Premier heater in the tent-heating environment is
available from L.B. White for use by local
inspection authorities.
Versatility
Our new heaters are versatile enough to heat a
tent of any size in virtually any kind of weather.
L.B. White provides a handy tent sizing guide to
assist you in determining the number of heaters
for each situation. Also, our tent heaters may be
used for both warming or simply circulating the
air. Premier heaters are certified for use with

PUBLIC WORKS AND THE PUBLIC WAY PERMIT PROCESS
How it relates to Building Permits:
Fill out the attached check list with the Building Permit Application.
If yes was answered to any of the questions then a "Public Way" permit is required. You
can pick up an application at either Community Development, located at 75 South Frontage
Road or Public Works, located at 1309 Elkhorn Drive.
Notice sign-offs for utility companies. ALL utilities must field verify (locate) respective
utilities prior to signing application. Some utility companies require up to 48 hours notice to
schedule a locate.
A construction traffic control/staging plan must be prepared on a separate sheet of paper.
An approved site plan may also be used. This plan will show locations of all traffic control
devices (signs, cones, etc.) and the work zone, (area of construction, staging, etc.). This
plan will expire on November 1st and will need to be resubmitted for consideration for
approval through the winter. Be aware that your resubmission for winter may be denied
depending on the location of construction.
Sketch of work being performed must be submitted indicating dimensions (length, width
and depth of work). This may be drawn on the traffic control plan or a site plan for the job.
Submit completed application to the Public Work's office for review. If required, locates will
be scheduled for the Town of Vail electricians and irrigation crew. The locates take place in
the morning, but may require up to 48 hours to perform.
The Public Work's Construction Inspector will review the application and approve or deny
the permit. You will be contacted as to the status and any requirements that may be
needed. Most permits are released within 48 hours of being received, but please allow up
to one (1) week to process.
As soon as the permit is approved, the Building Department will be notified, allowing the
"Building Permit" to be released. Please do not confuse the "Public Way Permit" with a
"Building Permit".
> NOTE: The above process is for work in a public way ONLY. Public Way
Permits are valid only until November l5th. A new Public Way Permit is required
each year if work is not complete. Re-application each November 15th does not
mean an automatic renewal.

BUILDING PERMIT ISSUANCE TIME FRAME
If this permit requires a Town of Vail Fire Department Approval, Engineer's (Public Works)
review and approval, a Planning Department review or Health Department review, and a review
by the Building Depaftment, the estimated time for a total review will take as long as three (3)
weeks.
All commercial (large or small) and all multi-family permits will have to follow the above
mentioned maximum requirements, Residential and small projects should take a lesser amount
of time. However, if residential or smaller projects impact the various above mentioned
departments with regard to necessary review, these projects may also take three (3) weeks to
review and approve.
Every attempt will be made by this depaftment to expedite this permit as soon as possible.

that if the permit is not picked up by the expiration date, that I must still pay the plan check fee
and that if I fail to do so it may affect future permits that I apply for.

a Unlawful deposits: Subject to subsection C thereof, it is unlawful for any person to litter, track or
deposit, or cause to be littered, tracked or deposited, sand, gravel, rocks, mud, dift, snow, ice, or any
other debris or material upon any street, sidewalk, alley or public place, or any portion thereof.
! Notice; Abatement: The Director of Public Works may notifo and require any person who violates or
causes another to violate the provision of subsection A hereof, or who has in the Director/s employment
a person who violates or causes another to violate the same, top remove such sand, gravel, rocks, mud,
dirt, snow, ice or any other debris or material within twenty four (24) hours after receipt of said notice
by the Director of Public Works. In the event the person so notified does not comply with the notice
within the period of time herein specified, the Director of Public Works, or other authorized agent, may
cause any such sand, gravel, rocks, mud, dirt, snow, ice, debris or any other material to be removed
from any street or alley at the expense of the notified.

on Line I I between the Base Lodge and the Parking Garage at Golden Peak.
Attached please fnd the 'Application for Design Review", the "Developer Improvement Agreement", a
more detailed version of the construction site plan that you and I reviewed in your office and check
#168935 in the amount of $6,782.40.
Admittedly I was challenged in completing such a detailed document for a maintenance project. As we
discussed, the existing landscaping, the above and below ground portions of the patio and walkway, the
bike path will be removed. The cause ofthe leak will be identified and repaired. Everything will then be
replaced to the same specifications that existed before the "search" began.
