General Information: This application is required for all proposals involving the additio
net floor area and/or gross residential floor area (GRFA). This also includes proposals for 'residential 250 additions' and
'interior conversions'. Applicable Vail Town Code sections can be found at www.vailgov.com under Vail Information -
Town Code Online. All projects requiring design review must receive approval prior to submitting a building permit ap-
plication. An application for Design Review cannot be accepted until all required information is received by the Commu-
nity Development Department, as outlined in the submittal requirements. The project may also need to be reviewed by
the Town Council and/or the Planning and Environmental Commission. Design review approval expires one year from
the date of approval, unless a building permit is issued and construction commences.

Attached please find our application along with the architectural and structural drawings for the
required repairs with renovations to our property.
These drawings are for the required structural repair and rebuild of the existing south and west facing
deck which urgently need to be re-enforced as they have deteriorated structurally (the west facing deck
is being designed to allow for the future expansion of the existing interior living area by approximately
170 sq. ft. that is currently exterior deck).
We are adding a south facing walkway/deck at the level below the existing deck at the home's lowest
living area. The design and structure of this deck will allow us to properly re-establish the structural
integrity of the existing main living area deck located above using piers and also provide an aesthetic
improvement to the home while providing access to a new spa (hot tub) area under the existing west
facing deck. Foundations planting are planned and will be added with TOV approval in the future to add
to the aesthetics of the property.
Additionally, we will be adding a masonry foundation wall of approximately 12 ft in length under the
home's existing west facing exterior wall in the office area. Currently this storage area under the home's
office area has concrete foundation walls on the north, east and south walls but the west facing is a
wooden non structural wall and that is what is being replaced. This area has no interior access to the
home. This storage area has a dirt floor and will be replaced with a concrete floor. The amount of
excavation of the dirt is limited as the sanitary sewer lift station piping runs through this area and
greatly limits the area that can be accessed. As we have discussed this would be deemed an interior
conversion. This storage area which is approximately 12ft. X 12 ft. and has a current variable ceiling
height of 3 ft to 8+ ft The intent is to excavate the area evenly to allow adequate height and a dry area
for storage.
Attached are the HOA approval and our duplex neighbor's approval of this project. Previously in staff
discussions you indicated and required a new Association Topographical Map before allowing these
repairs and improvements and the Casolar Vail HOA has now provided that map dated 7/3/2009.

Re: Casolar Del Norte Homeowners Association - Wallner and Bigsby Projects
Dear Mr. Campbell:
I am the Vice President of the Casolar Del Norte Homeowners Association, and this letter
is being sent to you on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Association.
As I believe you are aware, the Board of Directors is authorized under the Declaration of
Restrictive Covenants, as applicable to the entire Casolar neighborhood, to act as the
architectural review committee.
The Board of Directors, acting as the review committee, recently reviewed plans for work
on two residences located in our neighborhood. The two projects are as follows:
Bigsby residence known as 1180B Casolar Drive: Addition to and remodeling of
residence, pursuant to the architectural drawings for the same as prepared by architect Thomas
G. Edwards, Gypsum.
Duplex residence known as 1141 Casolar Drive: The project involves removal of the
existing tile roof material from the roof of the entire structure (1141 A and 1141 B Casolar Drive),
removal of solar heating panels from the east portion of the roof, and the installation on the entire
roof a standing seam, 24-gauge metal roof, with ice and water shield underlayment. The
replacement roof will be charcoal gray in color.
This letter is confirmation that both of the above-referenced projects have been
unanimously approved by the Board of Directors of the Association.
