Asbestos Testing&Abatement Requirements
Asbestos testing and abatement protects workers, homeowners, neighbors and emergency services responders from ex-
posure to harmful asbestos.The Town of Vail asbestos abatement program is in addition to the State of Colorado's regu-
lations. It is your responsibility to be in compliance with the State. Please contact the State directly for their requirements
at the contact info listed below.
When is asbestos testina reauired?
ANY building projects disturbing more than these threshold levels of building materials require asbestos testing:
One-and Two-Family Dwellings: 30 square feet
All Others: 160 square feet
Asbestos testing results must be provided with your application for a building permit.
Tests which identify POSITIVE results at more than 1% require abatement by a State-certified and Vail-registered abate-
ment contractor. An asbestos abatement permit must be approved, and the clearance letter must be submitted to the
Town of Vail before the building permit will be issued

Tips&Facts:
• Even recent construction projects may include asbestos-containing materials, so buildings of�age require testing.
• The"1989 Ban"on asbestos-containing materials is commonly misunderstood. "In fact, in 1991 the U.S. Fifth Circuit
Court of Appeals vacated much of the so-called "Asbestos Ban and Phaseout" rule and remanded it to the EPA.Thus,
much of the original 1989 EPA ban on the U.S. manufacturing, importation, processing, or distribution in commerce
of many asbestos-containing product categories was set aside and did not take effect." - CDPHE

Dear Mr. Stevenson,
As requested,structural steel special inspection was conducted at the above referenced project per
the IBC 2009 Edition-Chapter 17: Structural Tests and Special Inspecrion and Town of Vail requirements.
I arrived on site at 9:00 AM.I met with you and also the project engineer Mr.Mark J Mueller,P.E.with
The MJ Mueller Co.,Inc.to review project requirements and specifications.The steel fabricator and erector
for this project is Trinity Welding,Inc.in Leadville,Colorado.The welder qualification test reports for the
welder on site was reviewed and observed to be acceptable with project specifications.Copies of test
reports are on file with Mr.Jeremy Leibseit with Trinity Welding,Inc.
Visual welding inspection was conducted at the Bearing Wall Elevation at Units#225,#341,and
#457 on the newly installed C10 X 15.3 Channel,6"X 4"X'/."Tube Steel columns,channel&tube base
and cap plates,beam flange doubler plate,horizontal beam stiffener plates,and angle clip fillet welded
connections as required on Sheet S2 of 2:Details B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,&J on approved jobsite drawing
provide by The MJ Mueller Co.,Inc.in Vail,CO.dated 4-23-10.Fillet welded connections at areas
referenced in each unit locations were observed to be as detailed and in compliance with project
specifications.
