Include a construction detail for any work proposed to the existing 1 hour floor /ceiling assembly.
The plan indicates ceiling soffit and tiles to be "reworked ".
THE EXISTING BUILDING STRUCTURE IS CONCRETE, SEE ATTACHED
STRUCTURAL LETTER FOR CONCRETE DEPTHS. THE CEILING IS NOT
PART OF THE FIRE RATING ASSEMBLE.
6 Include structural plans including both lateral and gravity load analysis for the proposed new
openings to be constructed in the existing exterior wall. The structural engineer's letter indicates
only a floor loading analysis was performed.

Re: Millennium Bank ATM
Job Number 0901 -08
Dear Beth:
I have reviewed the specifications and proposed plans you have provided me for the ATM
machine and the night depository safe that are to be installed at the entrance to the Millennium
Bank at the Vail Das Schone building in west Vail. The units will be installed side -by -side and
recessed into the wall over the exterior foundation wall of the building. The weight of the ATM
machine will mostly be supported on the floor structure just inside the foundation wall; and the
night depository safe will be partially supported on the foundation wall and partially on the floor
structure. The ATM machine has a footprint of approximately 2' -4" x 2' -3" and weighs 1457
pounds. The night depository safe has a footprint of approximately 2' -4" x 2' -6" and weighs
1200 pounds.
The original structural documents are not available for my review, but I made a visit to the site on
01/14/09 and was able to observe a cross - section of the existing floor structure in the area of the
service elevator and the bottom of the structure directly below where the units are to be installed.
The floor framing consists of 8" deep precast concrete hollow -core panels with a 2" poured
concrete topping slab. The panels span over the lower level and bear on the foundation wall
below the proposed new ATM machine and safe. According to the published load tables from the
Precast Concrete Institute, these panels have adequate capacity to support and transfer the weight
of the units to the foundation.
It can also be seen from inside the Ace Hardware store that the floor above is the same type of
construction. There are precast concrete columns and beams supporting the hollow -core panels.
The exterior wall in which the new openings will be constructed is not a structural wall that
provides either lateral or vertical load resistance. Therefore, according to 2003 IBC Section
1614.3 and 2003 IEBC Section 607.4.2, a lateral load analysis is not required. To support the
dead load weight of the wall above the openings, I will provide a header specification once the
wall has been opened up and we can see what the existing framing consists of.
