Meadow Drive, Vail, CO RE: Garage Opening at Vail Village Inn/Vail Plaza, Plan Review Comment #2 PERMIT #1308-0398 PLAN REVIEW COMMENT: Revise plans to show location of the lot lien in the area of the proposed door. Openings must comply with IBC Table 704.8. No openings are permitted within 3' of the lot line. REQUEST: Allow alternate protection of the opening in a garage exterior wall. A 3 hour door will be installed on the exterior of the opening. This arrangement will 'Violate adopted code requirements, in that the required separation between Vail Village Inn and the adjacent property, Vail Plaza Hotel, will not be provided. The opening is within Z� of the property line. i To offset this deficiency, sprinkler coverage will be provided to' deluge the opening. New sprinkler heads will be provided at the opening, mounted so that operation of the sprinkler htad will deluge the opening, effectively providing, a one hour fire separation from the interior of the garage. We will place the sprinklers as shown on the attached drawing, with spacing of 6' on center. NFPA 13 approves this spacing for water curtains. This spacing is also noted as the minimum spacing allowed between sprinklers, per NFPA 1 ). BASIS: Refer to the attached drawing showing the opening, rated door and sprinkler plaef ment. The sprinkler heads will be standard response, ftised link type, to match the existing sprinkler heads already installed in the garage. The sprinklers will be triggered individually by heat. This will ,ensure that a sprir �' only activates in response to a fire in the direct area, thus not impedifig egress in the event of all evacuation or other alarm. As is the case throughout the garage; only the sprinklers needed to suppress a fire will activate.
