Fire Rated Floor Assembly Dear Martin: Attached please find Drawings AX-1, AX-2 and AX-3 for the above listed project, which we discussed on Friday 5-21-10. As a reminder, I told you that the Antlers Condominiums wants to replace the existing store front type windows with ones that are similar. The present installation has the window frame approximately '/z" away from the existing precast concrete floor system, which separates the individual condominium units from each other and this gap is filled with caulk. On 4-26-10 JR visited the site to review the existing condition with the Contractor and myself. We discussed the existing condition and asked if we might be able to install a 2-Hr. shaft type assembly between the edge of concrete floor and face of spandrel panel on the new window in an effort to improve the existing condition but realizing it would not be a true 2-Hr. assembly. J.R. acknowledged that it was an existing condition and felt that improving the situation would be better than what was existing. J.R. suggested that a "Hilti" Head Of Wall Assembly might be a substitute to the shaft wall construction f suggested. He then gave us approval to proceed with one or the other solution (see attached field report). On Friday 5-21-10 we discuss the above issue and I explained that the Head of Wall Assembly requires a minimum of 4" of mineral wool and we would only have about 1-1/2". You indicated that this was not enough. I then agreed to provide you with a Detail showing how we would install the drywall assembly I discussed with J.R. A present the windows are on order and the Contractor needs to order the drywall materials, which may be a special order. Please review the attached information at you earliest convenience and let me know if it is an acceptable solution to the issue or what the modifications should be.
