Hello Members of the Vail Town Council,
I am writing in interest to your call for service on the board of Art in Public Places. I have
been interested in this incredible group of visionaries for quite some time, actively
participating on the AIR committee and applying for this position for my third time.
I am not especially interested in the time I know it will take and the time I will spend in
helping to steer this ship back on course, I am however willing to do so. I have pride in our
town and would love to see art and culture unite us. I am actively participating in several art
and cultural groups across the Americas and would be willing to extend these relationships and
connections into our town's need for a stronger and more engaging foundation around our arts and
what the current AiPP board is trying to achieve. Giving me the opportunity to lean into my
current network to help this program will prove to you that it is not rocket science. All it
takes is a few of us willing to put in the work. And with a board of five, trust me they need
all the folks they can get who are willing to roll up their sleeves.
I said it before in my previous letter of interest and so I will say it again...
There seems now, more than ever, an incredible opportunity to bring public work to the community
via donors, grants, fundraising efforts & most importantly marketing & promoting the incredible
collection that currently exists here in Vail. As well as collaborating with our other amazing
community driven foundations. I believe our creative culture must grow in order to capture the
critical thinkers, the magic makers and the travelers who will define this next generation of
leaders. I would be honored to use my enthusiasm, energy, connections and people skills to help
aid in making our "ART" more of a reason for people to visit. While simultaneously capturing the
interest of our existing local community to have a culture of creativity like we have never seen
before. The kind of creative community I think we all desire to live in, one that leaves a
legacy for future generations.
There is a desire to share in this magic that art encapsulates and with your acceptance and
through this opportunity to serve our community I truly believe I can help facilitate bringing
this community together through all of our art & cultural programming; helping to inspire, raise
awareness and aide in the task of helping our cultural community grow.
Thank you for your time and consideration, Ramsey Cotter

history, and ignites meaningful conversations. In Vail, we're excited to showcase our unique
identity through our spectacular natural landscapes and inspiring art, creating a vibrant and
unforgettable place for everyone to enjoy.

What would you like to see for the Art in Public Places in the future, including

There are some exciting initiatives underway, including the renovation of Dobson's Arena
and the reimagining of the Gore Creek Promenade. Both projects present opportunities for
integrating various forms of art, including site -specific and temporary revolving exhibition
space. While these initiatives are still in the planning stages, I have ideas and concepts that
can present to the board. Additionally, I have been fortunate to work on the most recent
iteration of the Artist in Residency program from its inception. I have contributed to ideas
about the flexibility of the space and helped draft future programming.

Susanne Graf AIPP Board Seat Letter of Intent
03/11 /2025
Dear Vail Town Council,
I am applying to maintain the Art In Public Places board seat that I currently hold. I have been
on the AIPP Board over the past five years, and I am looking forward to introducing the Artist in
Residency Program in Ford Park. I believe that I am uniquely qualified to hold this position,
given my past experiences as well as my current community contributions to the town of Vail
and the Valley as a whole. In the spirit of brevity, I have listed a few of my qualifications:
• Lead Art Therapist: Healthy Young Minds, I lead a team of art therapists in Colorado, Florida, Texas,
and New York on our teletherapy platform, with a focus on underserved communities and families on
Medicaid
• Art therapist: The Vail Mind Center, a pediatric behavior and mental health clinic founded by my
husband and me, serving families in Eagle County.
• Art Department Chair: Vail Mountain School, a position that I held for 6 years. I left to transition my
focus on being full-time at the Vail Mind Center.
• MFA, Master's in Fine Art degree from Brooklyn College with an emphasis in sculpture.
• MA, Masters in Art, Art Therapy from New York University
• Art Education pre-K-12th grade certificate from Parsons School of Design
• BA in Studio Art from Colorado College
I have truly enjoyed my work as a board member over these past several years. A considerable
part of my life's work has been in art education, and I can think of no better way to give access
to art than to bring it into the public sphere. That is why the work of AIPP has been personally
meaningful, and I know has had a positive impact on the greater community. Even before my
role as a board member, for years I partnered with the town and Molly Eppard to create the
lanterns for the winter light festival and curate art exhibitions in the Vail Library's Community
Room.
Given my areas of expertise and my commitment to this town and to promoting the arts, I hope
you will consider me again for a board seat on AIPP. Attached is my resume, and I am happy to
elaborate on any of my past experiences or future endeavors.
Sincerely,
Susanne Graf

am interested in serving on the AIPP board for many reasons, one to see the completion
and implementation of the Town of Vail Art Studio in Ford Park from conceptual design of
both the building and artist in residence program from framework planning and
programming, developing overall cultural goals to construction and execution of ultimately,
the artist and community space and art programming. I would like to see the continued
implementation of the AIPP Strategic Plan, Policies, and Guidelines. And it would be great to
see the acquisitions process for the donations and installation of significant site integrated
art pieces possibly from the Logan Collection. I am also interested in collaborating with the
TOV, Molly Eppard (AIPP program coordinator) and different artist and entities for community
art programming with programming such as the Public Art Mural program, Winterfest, the
Artist in Residence program, all public art acquisitions and installation of pieces, artist
openings, art walks and expanding the Art in Public Places program.
Courtney St. John
• What unique and particular qualifications do you bring to the position?
Please provide specific examples.
am a self-employed Interior Designer at Courtney St. John Studio with an office / studio in
East Vail and Radium, Colorado. I am a wife and mother to two teenaged daughters, ages 13
and 15. From a young adult age, I have been very interested in Art and Design while also
being fully immersed in a vibrant, healthy, sustainable mountain lifestyle. Professionally and
personally, I follow many art galleries, artists, designers, architects, craftspeople, etc. on
social media and enjoy going to art openings and galleries in my spare time to see different
artists work. I truly value our community and the visual arts, and I have so enjoyed being
part of AIPP and seeing so many amazing projects completed as well as others that are still
in process and many not even thought of yet! I love seeing how art can be integrated within
the Town of Vail and the vitality it brings to our community. I feel my decades long career as
an Interior Designer in Vail, as well studying Fine Art at the University of Kansas and
Colorado State University are a good fit for the Town of Vail's Art in Public Places Board. In
addition to studying Fine Art, Textile Design and Interior Design at the University level, I have
attended Anderson Ranch in Snowmass, Colorado and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in
Deer Isle, Maine. Anderson Ranch and Haystack are both international craft schools providing
studio and workshop space for individuals to pursue their art and craft in a natural setting,
Haystack on the coast of Maine and Anderson Ranch in the Rocky Mountains in Snowmass,
Colorado. I believe these unique and particular qualifications are of service to the AIPP
program, especially as a board member.
What is your experience serving on other Boards?
have served on HOA Boards and have been an AIPP Board Member for the last 5 years.
What skills and experiences do you have to advance the mission of the
Board?
believe my personal and professional background and skills have created a sound
framework for artistic and design proficiency, which can help advance the AIPP mission.
have a strong foundation in the visual arts, fine arts, art history, and design, and have been
a Town of Vail community member for 25 years. My education and experience in using
various mediums to create art, such as sculpture, painting, textile art, photography, clay,
etc. bring an in depth, hands on perspective to the AIPP Board. I aim to foster community
engagement within AIPP by attending AIPP community programming as well as other art
related programming within Colorado and beyond. I believe AIPP resonates within the
community as well as with Town of Vail guests. Daily, in my professional life, I use skills to
collaborate on projects which can foster community involvement and engagement, thus
advancing the mission of AIPP. I believe proficiency in fundraising strategies can help sustain
and expand art initiatives with the AIPP programming. AIPP is continually developing
programs that educate the public about art, which enhances appreciation and engagement.
Understanding and respecting the diverse cultural backgrounds within the Town of Vail
ensures that public art is inclusive and reflective of the entire community.
Courtney St. John
What do you see as the primary role of this Board?
I see the primary role of the Board as a voluntary position(s), essential in maintaining the
Town of Vail's reputation as a cultural destination and ensuring that public art enhances the
town's visual and social environment. Their work helps enhance Vail's cultural landscape
and maintain its reputation as an international destination. Another role for the AIPP Board is
to assist Molly Eppard, the program coordinator, to help guide and provide input on the
selection, placement, and maintenance of public artworks throughout Vail. The Board
reviews, evaluates, approves/disapproves new public art projects / proposals, including
sculptures, murals, installations, programming, etc related to the Town of Vail and the AIPP
program. The Board advises on policy / guidelines / budgets, helping to develop policies for
the public art program and overseeing the budget for acquisitions, installations,
maintenance, while working alongside Molly Eppard, AIPP program coordinator. The board
also is involved in community engagement, encouraging public participation in art initiatives,
collaborating with artists, attending art events and programming, and fostering cultural
enrichment. The Board along side Molly Eppard, ensures that existing artworks are properly
maintained and that the collection remains relevant and in good condition. A primary role for
the AIPP Board is to promote the visual arts within the Town of Vail and advocate for the
importance of public art and increasing awareness of Vail's art initiatives through AIPP
program.
What do you believe is the largest obstacle facing this Board in the upcoming
year?
believe the largest obstacle facing the AIPP Board in the upcoming year is completing the
construction of the Town of Vail Art Studio in Ford Park and its programming. I do believe
budgeting and construction costs relating to the Art Studio could pose a challenge for the
Board and TOV. I also believe the art acquisition and installations at Dobson Arena will be
instrumental in shaping more of the AIPP art collection. Although these things could be
considered obstacles, they are also incredible opportunities that hopefully the Board will see
through to their completion.
Do you have any conflicts of interest that may arise due to your employment,
personal and/or professional relationships, or financial interests in the Town
of Vail?

Question applies to Art in Public Places
Why is public art important to the Vail community?
Public art is important to any community, I love seeing how art can be integrated within the
Town of Vail and the vitality it brings to our community. The visual arts can be so
transformational for a community and moving for its individuals. Pubic art creates interest
and depth in a community by facilitating conversations and inspiring ideas. When public art
is transformative for a community, it is often referenced as the Bilboa Effect. The Bilbao
Effect is a term used to describe how iconic architecture, art and cultural investment can
transform a city's economy and reputation. By being an AIPP Board Member, I hope to
explore the continued expansion of the visual arts within the Town of Vail and see the effects
within the Town of Vail and outside our community as well.
Courtney St. John
Question applies to Art in Public Places
What do you most enjoy about Vail's Art in Public Places program?
enjoy the diversity of art in the AIPP collection. I think the Town of Vails public parks are a
great example of incorporating art and thoughtful ideas into a public space. The AIPP art
collection and public parks throughout the Town of Vail provide a unique experience for
community members and guests alike. I believe AIPP is on a great trajectory with enhancing
the visual arts within the Town of Vail by incorporating the Artist in Residence program in
Ford Park and possible consideration for an Art Museum / Gallery in the Civic Area / Dobson
Master Plan, pending future redevelopment. Many of our surrounding mountain resort areas
have sound Art Museums / Visual Art Centers within their communities; Aspen, Telluride,
Crested Butte, Steamboat, these museums not only provide classes and workshops for
community members, but also provide dedicated indoor spaces / galleries for the visual arts.
These spaces become vital gathering places to view art and exchange ideas. The completion
of the Town of Vail Art Studio will be instrumental in advancing the AIPP mission.
Question applies to Art in Public Places
What would you like to see for the Art in Public Places in the future, including
the Artist in Residency program and Studio? Will you be able to bring

Dear Vail Town Council and to whom it may concern,
I am writing in regard to the Town of Vail's Art in Public Places Board Opening(s). I presently serve on the Art
in Public Places Board of Directors and would love the opportunity to continue with the appointment to see
many of the current projects through completion:
- Developing the Ford Park Art Studio from conceptual design of both the building and artist in
residence program from framework planning and programming, developing overall cultural goals to
construction and execution of ultimately, the artist and community space and art programming
- See the implementation of the AIPP Strategic Plan, Policies, and Guidelines
- continuing and the acquisitions process for the donations and installation of significant site
integrated art pieces from the Logan Collection
- collaborating with the TOV, Molly Eppard, AIPP Coordinator, and different artist and entities for
community art programming with programming such as the Public Art Mural program, Winterfest,
the Artist in Residence program, all public art acquisitions and installation of pieces, artist openings,
continue to implement the AIPP Strategy Plan, Policies, and Guidelines, Art Walks and expanding the
Public Art Program
I am a self-employed Interior Designer at Courtney St. John Studio with an office / studio in East Vail and
Radium, Colorado. I am a wife and mother to two middle school aged daughters, ages 13 and 15. I feel my
decades long career as an Interior Designer as well studying Fine Art at the University of Kansas and Colorado
State University are a good fit for the Town of Vail's Art in Public Places Board. In addition to studying, Textile
Design and Interior Design at the University level, I have attended Anderson Ranch in Snowmass, Colorado
and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine. Anderson Ranch and Haystack are both
international craft schools providing studio and workshop space for individuals to pursue their art and craft in
a natural setting, Haystack on the coast of Maine and Anderson Ranch in the Rocky Mountains in Snowmass,
Colorado.
While serving on the current board of directors, I truly believe the AIPP is on a great trajectory with
enhancing the visual arts within the Town of Vail by incorporating the Artist in Residence program in Ford
Park and possible consideration for an Art Museum / Gallery in the Civic Area / Dobson Master Plan, pending
future redevelopment. Many of our surrounding mountain resort areas have sound Art Museums / Visual Art
Centers within their communities; Aspen, Telluride, Crested Butte, Steamboat, these museums not only
provide classes and workshops for community members, but also provide dedicated indoor spaces / galleries
for the visual arts. These spaces become vital gathering places to view art and exchange ideas.
From a young adult age, I have been very interested in Art and Design while also being engaged in a healthy
mountain lifestyle. Professionally and personally, I follow many art galleries, artists, designers, architects,
craftspeople, etc. in social media and enjoy going to art openings and galleries in my spare time to see
different artists work. I truly value our community and the Visual Arts, and I have so enjoyed being part of
AIPP and seeing so many amazing projects completed as well as others that are still in process and many not
even thought of yet! I love seeing how art can be integrated within the Town of Vail and the vitality it brings
to our community.
The visual arts can be so transformational for a community and moving for its individuals. By being a Board
Member, I hope to explore the continued expansion of the visual arts in the Town of Vail. I am so grateful to
have this opportunity to reintroduce myself and be considered for an opening for the Board of Directors for
Art in Public Places within the Town of Vail!
Best regards,
Courtney St. John

Which Boards would you like to apply for?
Art in Public Places: Submitted
Why are you interested in serving on this board?
am interested in serving on this board because I have a vested interest in fostering the
thriving arts community in the Vail Valley. As a musician and someone who was born and
raised here, I hold a deep passion for the artistic culture of this special place.
Emma C Walldorf
• What unique and particular qualifications do you bring to the position?
Please provide specific examples.
was born and raised in the Vail and Edwards areas and have experienced firsthand the
culture and history of the Valley. I danced in Vail Valley Foundation's Youth Power 365
Celebrate the Beat and was an avid enthusiast of Bravo! Vail growing up. Upon graduating
Vail Christian High School in 2017, 1 got my undergraduate degree in Voice and
Ethnomusicology at Wheaton College, right outside of the culturally rich city of Chicago. My
time in the Chicago area greatly grew my understanding of music and the arts as a vital role
to the function of a thriving society. I spent 6 months as a songwriting intern with the
multicultural band Urban Doxology in Richmond, Virginia in 2020, where my worldview
became even more textured through the lens of learning how to use music as a tool for racial
reconciliation. After working as a news producer with a start-up news show partnered with
the Vail Daily, I was privileged to learn from Vail Valley icons like Tricia Swenson about the
inner workings of the arts and entertainment side of Vail extending to Gypsum. After this
brief interlude in the Valley, I continued my academic pursuits in 2022 at Missouri State
University, where I taught voice as a graduate assistant while pursuing my Master of Music
in voice. While I was in Springfield, Missouri, I was able to partake in their own public arts
culture by singing with the Ozarks Lyric Opera. My two years of research and performance
concentrated on the intersection of French politics and art at the turn of the 20th century.
This research gave me a unique opportunity to gain insight on the role of art in socio-
political spheres. I received my degree in May of 2024. 1 spent three summers during grad
school interning with Bravo! Vail in multiple parts of the organization. I love the work they do
and admire the world -class artistry they bring to the Valley every summer. They will always
hold a special place in my heart. I am now the full time worship director at Trinity Church,
where I engage the worship arts every week and teach classical voice privately. I am even
hosting a camp for kids this summer that will explore the intersection of faith and the arts!
What is your experience serving on other Boards?
I have no formal board experience. However, I am currently in an executive director position.
This has proved to be an almost daily exercise in leadership, strategic thinking, and
motivating a team with various viewpoints and personalities towards common goals. Many of
these people are several decades my senior, and it is humbling to have the trust of a team
whom I admire so much. I am also responsible to an oversight board who evaluate my
performance and provide regular direction and feedback.
What skills and experiences do you have to advance the mission of the
Board?
My educational background has given me skill in research, presentation, and performance.
Being a native to the valley, I would hope to lend a knowledge of the culture and history to
the Board, as well as an understanding of the arts world and current conversation around the
role of art in a local community. Professionally, I am a strong networker and enjoy getting to
know the local business owners, educators, and various leaders that make Vail a unique
community to locals and visitors alike. I would advance the Board's mission of making art
accessible and educational with a quality of excellence not only through my education and
personal artistic experience, but also through my own lived history and understanding of the
people in the valley.
What do you see as the primary role of this Board?
see this Board as leading the charge on fostering a thriving art community in the Vail
Valley. This requires not only a high degree of excellence in the quality of art, but also an
accessibility to the people experiencing art. Art needs to be relevant, memorable, and also
challenging to the public, which requires a devoted and insightful Board to oversee. I see this
Board managing the fundamental roles of funding, marketing, and educating the public on
art in the community.
Emma C Walldorf
What do you believe is the largest obstacle facing this Board in the upcoming
year?
While I am not fully aware of the state of local public funding towards art, I am very aware
that funding for the arts has become a particular challenge in the past few months. If the
Board receives any federal funding from national programs like the NEA, I could imagine this
would be an obstacle in the upcoming year. I have also followed the conversation the Board
has faced in years past with art seen as controversial in Vail and the care the Board takes in
commissioning artists. I could imagine this would also pose a challenge to future projects. I
admire the Board in stepping into these conversations for decades now and giving space for
art to not only be traditional, but also challenging - to quote the late Rod Slifer, "When art is
anything other than traditional it's going to be controversial."

Question applies to Art in Public Places
Why is public art important to the Vail community?
The Vail community exists in a unique geographic space in that there is already so much
natural beauty surrounding our homes, places of work, and community spaces. The purpose
of art is not exclusively to beautify a landscape - it exists as an opportunity for humans to
respond to our environment and build upon feelings, ideas, and larger social conversation. It
memorializes, provokes, explains, or inspires. For those who have lived in Vail for decades,
have just moved here, or who are visiting for a week, public art is an opportunity to engage
the people artistically in a mutual field of discovery and contemplation. The existence of
public art in Vail gives a space to expand on the history of the valley, to explore the
intricacies of the natural flora and fauna, or to admire the way shape and form might play a
part in the architecture of the village. It is a common ground to engage artistically.
Question applies to Art in Public Places
What do you most enjoy about Vail's Art in Public Places program?
I enjoy its intentionality in art placement, commissioning, and diversity of medium. I love
how so much of the art is integrated into the natural surroundings, or how it champions the
history and beauty of athleticism, or how it provides color and whimsy in a contrasting way
to the natural colors of the mountains (specifically, the parking garage murals!). I think the
program is great at giving accessible understanding to the pieces of art, opportunities to tour
with knowledgeable people, and an overall openness to the attitude of art.

Question applies to Art in Public Places
What would you like to see for the Art in Public Places in the future, including
the Artist in Residency program and Studio? Will you be able to bring
concepts for programs, artists, and installations forth for Board discussion
and consideration?
would love to see creative opportunities to bring in different mediums of art to interact with
the visual art - music and dance specifically. I recall ten years ago my sister being a part of a
dance group through the Vail Dance Festival that had a performance in the Jesus Morales
granite installation at Ford Park - I think there could be cool opportunities for various
expressions of art to interact in creative ways!

To Mayor Coggin and the town council,
I have been benefitting from the work that the Art in Public Places Board has been doing
since 1999, the year I was born at the Vail Hospital. Little did I realize the impact this art in my
local context would have on my future endeavors, or how much it had impacted my enrichment
growing up. Having returned to the Vail Valley full time this past summer, I am excited to take
part in an arts community that has been such a benefit to me and so many others.
I believe I would be a strong candidate for this Board. After receiving my Bachelor
degree in Ethnomusicology and Voice Performance in 2021, 1 felt compelled to pursue a Master
of Music with the intent of returning to the Valley to be a voice adding excellence and
accessibility to the arts. I have had the privilege to research, teach, work, and perform in
flourishing artistic circles. It has given me a passion for other young people growing up in Vail to
experience art in a way that might inspire them to not only grow their own gifts and talents, but
also foster a desire to build into their own community.
Vail is a unique environment in which locals and tourists alike play, work, and learn. This
presents a unique opportunity to lead the local town public arts culture in a way that challenges,
beautifies, and inspires the town of Vail with meaningful and memorable art.
It would be an honor and a privilege to serve on this Board. I look forward to hearing
from you all soon!
