Recognizing the Vail Valley Foundation’s Empowering Possibility Campaign to Improve
the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater
WHEREAS,since opening its doors in 1987 with Willie Nelson as the first headliner, the Gerald
R. Ford Amphitheater has been the cultural and entertainment centerpiece of Vail and Eagle
County every summer;
WHEREAS,the Gerald Ford Amphitheater is home to myriad AMP Summer Concerts, the Bravo!
Vail Festival, the Vail Dance Festival, Mountains of Music during the Mountain Games, local
graduations, celebrations of life and other community events;
WHEREAS,the Gerald Ford Amphitheater is a significant economic engine for the town, hosting
over 127,000 guests across 90 total events and generating approximately $44M in economic
impact during 2024;
WHEREAS,as owner and operator, the Vail Valley Foundation intends to raise $20 million in
capital funding for a major renovation of the Gerald Ford Amphitheater including a number of
improvements such as new seating, concession areas, box office and back of house offices and
artist green rooms, acoustics and a multi-purpose rehearsal space, dance studio and donor area;
WHEREAS,the planned improvements will ensure all elements of this iconic venue will improve
the experience of our audience, artists, staff, and community for the next two generations;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Mayor and Vail Town Council do hereby proclaim support for the Vail
Valley Foundation’s capital campaign to fund major improvements to the Gerald R. Ford
Amphitheater.
