ARRIVE: 2:30 DEPART. 3:00 WEATHER: Sunny JOB NUMBER: 0809 -12 PRESENT AT SITE: Patrick Adair STATUS OF COMPLETION: C�CM SEP . 5 2008 N O F VA1t_ On Tuesday September 16, 2008, 1 conducted a site visit to observe wall framing for the chimney located on the south side of the residence. Upon arrival I noticed that the exterior sheathing had been partially removed on the lower portion of the chimney. The 2x6 studs that had been exposed showed significant signs of deterioration, and I was told that the condition of the framing was worse higher up the chimney. We recommend all framing and sheathing showing signs of deterioration be replaced. I also noticed that the grade surrounding the chimney was very close to the cantilevered floor framing, in one area the grade was in contact with the exterior wall /floor assembly. The floor joists were not accessible at the time of visit so I could not verify the condition of the joists. We are recommending that the cantilevered floor joists supporting the chimney be exposed in order to look for signs of deterioration, and that grade be lowered to provide 12" of clearance between grade and the underside of the floor joists, as per code. Please contact our office once the floor joists in the area of concern have been exposed for another site visit to determine their condition. SIGNED: Tim D.
