PEC Aproval Action Form z „ Page 1 ; From: Louis Bieker<Ibieker@4240arch.com> To: "tom@braunassociates.com” <tom@braunassociates.com>, 'Warren Campbell' <... Date: 5/12/2010 9:48 AM Subject: RE: PEC Approval Action Form CC: Tracy Hart<thart@4240arch.com> All- We had a very productive meeting with BGCE yesterday afternoon regarding solar and are preparing a "mini-report"with recommendations for proposed systems & attached images/exhibits. This report will take a first stab at costs and performance benefits/ ROI for the recommended system(s). This will be completed by early next week, in time for our DRB discussion next Wednesday. We are pursuing the following: (transpired solar)vertically mounted to south side of FRTB...this system is designed to offset gas fired heating costs. (PV solar) rooftop mounted flush to slope of roof-either rectangular panels (typical PVi cell) or PV sheet (could be rolled between the ribs if we stay with a standing seam roof)...this system will offset electrical costs (ie..lighting) the two systems compliment each other and do not require significant, if any, complicated interfaces...simple solution!!! We have directed the design team (based on Stan, Greg's & Tom K's direction) to develop the CD's with solar. We will include the recommended system(s) as an Add Alternate in the Construction Documents. We are moving forward quickly with this direction. Please talk with Tracy over the next few days if you have any further questions on this -Lou From: Tom Braun [tom@braunassociates.com] Sent: Wednesday, May 12, 2010 9:13 AM To: 'Warren Campbell'; Louis Bieker; 'Tom Kassmel' Subject: RE: PEC Approval Action Form No problem. I would say that we have responded very directly to most of the sustainability points raised and are continuing to review/evaluate some of the comments, i.e. solar. From a process standpoint the sustainability items are an arms length removed from the DRB process and based on that I would hope that our DRB review is not delayed by sustainability items. Look forward to hearing what you decide. tom -----Original Message----- From: Warren Campbell [mailto:WCampbell@vailgov.com] Sent: Wednesday, May 12, 2010 9:04 AM To: Ibieker@4240arch.com; tom@braunassociates.com; Tom Kassmel Subject: PEC Approval Action Form Tom, I got your message. I need to speak with George before I can respond to see if he is satisfied with the outcome of our conversation last week with Kristen. He was the advocate behind the comments we sent about sustainability. Date: 12 May 2010 To: Mr. Warren Campbell Chief of Planning Department of Community Development 75 South Frontage Road Vail, Colorado 81657 cc: Tom Kassmetl/ToV Lou Bieker/4240 Tom Braun/TBA From: Tracy Hart Fite: 210b4.00/3.1 Subject: DRB Submittal-Work Session Comments and Updates Project: Lionshead Transportation Center- 2010 improvements Page: 1 of 2 Memorandum 4240 Message: Warren, We would like to submit the following items as updates for the DRB package submitted and dated 26 Aprit 2010. These updates are in response to feedback received at the DRB work session of 5 May 2010. Roof MateriaUType: Comment during the work session regarding the material and pattern of the roof. We recommend staying with the roof color submitted (meets the LEED criteria for SRI on sloped roofsl, but have revised our drawings to indicate a metal shingle pattern. We have also revised the chimney surrond from metal to stone, and changed the metal fascia to stained wood fascia. See revised sheets A006 and A007. Stone: Comment during the work session regarding the color range of stone. We have selected a stone coloration that is warmer, and have updated the name on the finish legend on sheet A006 and will include a photo of the stone on the materials board. Lighting: Comment during the work session regarding location of Town of Vail pole lights. We have updated our light fixture locations, moving the pole lights up to the bus stop, where their size relates to the scale of the street. Pedestrian ways are lit by a bollard that is integrated into the bridges and barriers. The bollard fixture closely resembles 424o Architecture.tucao Jener;coLarimar Steet Denver.Co:orado.zoz T 3ez zgz z3S3 ;03cz 3,i3 bV qz:}oacnitectur?.com Memorandum Poject Name or Subject Project Number Page 2/2 4240 the Town of Vail bollard -we are not using the Louis Poulsen fixture because it does not come at the smaller size needed to integrate with the architecture. Please find attached the exterior light fixture cutsheets. Solar: At the direction of the Town, 4240 and our consultants are investigating solar opportunities for the Frontage Road Transit Building, including photovoltaic (PV) mounted on the roof and transpired solar located on the south-facing exterior wall. We are researching systems, costs, and performance benefits for the systems, and will be able to discuss our findings during the DRB meeting. We are not implying it is the DRB's responsibility to select the system, but this is an opportunity to discuss the aesthetic impacts the systems will potentially have to the building. Once a system is approved by the Town, we will document it as an add-alternate, and will prepare drawings to submit to the DRB illustrating the system on the building as an amendment. Neither system being considered will alter the overall massing or materials on the building. 4z4o Arehitecture c.;cao der.i.:300Lari:nr_r St.eer Dem,+er,Co!erado So2o To;29;z38 ;03 29zi3 W.}qoarc:tecture.com - :• r,; r . t ,,., :.r.Y t i;'"' ` . :.`,, . ,. !- , .:;;,; ;..,, '° ' f ' - 'y r..._ti ... +t J r y J; . ~.t .'`.'rt y, • ,r},. ?,4`~ :, +.
