Solaris Vail Revised Second Administrative Modification Request
>>> <Brian_Thompson@schirmereng.com> 04/04/2008 1:06 PM >>>
Charlie, Mike, and John;
In an effort to move things along with the topic of revising the approved
Item #5 of the Second Administrative Modification Request for the Solaris
Vail design, I am sending a copy of the document attached. This document
shows all of the changes by use of editorial tracking. Item #5 is the only
Item being modified but since the document also includes Item #4 and #6,
it is important to understand that the only changes to those pages pertain
to the date.
In a peer review effort, Schirmer Engineering is of the belief that
exhausting the corridor while pressurizing the stairwells and elevator
hoistways is counterproductive to establishing a good and simple design
for tenable egress. Providing pressurization or exhaust at the corridor
while pressurizing the hoistways and stairwells is a difficult design and
it creates more confusion on the Fire Fighters Smoke Control Panel than is
necessary for what should be a simple system. The corridors will
automatically receive some pressurization from the leakage occurring with
the elevator hoistways and stairwells. So we are trying to eliminate the
exhaust portion of Item #5 and go with the understanding that the code
appears to have developed into allowing 125 feet and an accepted common
path of travel distance in the code community for the reasons already
identified in BCER's approved request.
We have all agreed to try and make this work via email. So if each of you
would get back to me in regards to any necessary changes, I would
appreciate it. Of course, BCER remains the engineer of record on the
document and their acceptance of these changes is key. I would liked to
have sent this to TOV after having received BCER's acceptance/signature
and stamp, however, a simultaneous effort will be necessary.
I plan to be in Vail on Tuesday, April 8, 2008. My goal, if all parties
approve/accept is to have signed hard copies of the document (with the
editorial tracking accepted or not showing) for submission to Charlie,
Mike, and John for signatures. I know this is a quick turn around and
appreciate everyone's effort in making it work.
If anyone has any questions during their review, please do not hesitate to
give me a call. Because of the importance of this, please do not hesitate
to call my cell phone if I am not available at the office (303-204-5311).
Also, if anyone is interested in the 2007 Supplement, it is obtainable on
the ICC website or give me a call and I will send along.
Regards,
Brian Thompson, P.E.
