Asbestos testing and abatement protects workers, homeowners, neighbors and emergency services responders from ex-
posure to harmful asbestos. The Town of Vail asbestos abatement program is in addition to the State of Colorado's regu- :
lations. It is your responsibility to be in compliance with the State. Please contact the State directly for their requirements �

When is asbestos testina reauired?
ANY building projects disturbing more than these threshold levels of building materials require asbestos testing: e

One-and Two-Family Dwellings: 32 square feet � �
All Others (commercial spaces, hotel rooms, etc): 160 square feet �
Definition of a single-family dwelling: any dwelling unit that is used primarily for a single family, including �
multi-family/condominium units, and fractional fee units. �

Asbestos testing results must be provided with your application for a building permit. �

Tests which identify POSITIVE results at more than 1% require abatement by a State-certified and Vail-registered abate- �'
ment contractor. An asbestos abatement permit must be approved, and the clearance letter must be submitted to the �

conduct an asbestos inspection of the suspect materials that will be disturbed.

This inspection includes only suspect materials that are visible to the inspector. If other suspect �
materials become visible during demolition, they must be sampled before they are disturbed. �
Examples of suspect materials include but are not limited to: linoleum, floor tile,ceiling tile, �
mastic, sheetrock,joint compound,roofing materials, etc. There are over 3000 known asbestos �
containing materials. �

SAMPLING PLAN: �
�
Colorado State Requirements -For each homogenous area of less than 1000 square feet, a �
minimum of three samples must be collected in random areas. For each homogenous area of �
1000—5000 square feet, a minimum of five samples must be collected in random areas. Areas �
of 5001 square feet or greater require a minimum of 7 samples. These laws are defined by the z
EPA(AHERA)and Colorado State Regulation 8. �

Dear Mr. Bryan Johnson:
The purpose of this site visit was to observe the existing conditions of the Upper Level Living Room's South
Wall Framing, whieh supports the existing Vaulted Roof. At the time of observation, demolition had begun
in various areas of the residence and sub-contractors were in their initial staging phases of the project.
The following was noted:
Existinp Sourh Livinp Room Wall Framinq
A. The existing Upper Level South Wall Framing consists of: 2x6's at a 16" o.c. spacing with 4x4
intermediate and (3)-2x6 end-wail support columns, with exterior plywood, house wrap and interior
gyp.-board.
B. Additionally,the existing 5 1/8"x 15" Glu-Lam,which supports the Living Room's Roof above the
existing exterior wall was exposed to show a splice in the beam above,though close to,the proposed
window opening (approx. 3'-3"from the end-wall and 9"+/-from the window edge).
Structural Recommendation:
Upon review and discussion with the contractor in regards to the proposed window's rough opening
and support column location; please refer to the attached Section W-1 for column location limitations and
beam splice connection.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns,or if anything else arises upon further demolition/
construction.

The Town of Vail Planning Department performed a final inspection at 1575 Aspen Ridge Lane. Before the Planning
Department can approve this inspection, the following items must be addressed:

support columns above.
• The stone veneer wall enclosing the south side of the hot tub must be completed.
