This letter summarizes the special inspections GROUND Engineering Consultants, Inc. (GROUND) performed
during the improvements to the Wine Silo at the Vail Plaza Hotel, located in Vail, Colorado. The observations
were performed at times scheduled by the Client, Contractor and/or Subcontractors.
The structural steel welded and/or bolted connections for the Wine Silo were observed during construction by a
certified welding inspector (CWI). These observations were completed on December 14, 2010 as scheduled by
the Client, Contractor or Subcontractor. Based on our observations on this date and the documentation received
from the Contractor and Structural Engineer, it is our opinion that the materials tested and/or observed for the
structural steel addition were in general accordance with project plans,specifications, or applicable RFI's,
A representative of GROUND observed the fireproofing materials used to patch the work areas on the columns
adjacent to the Wine Silo on 12-17-2010.The materials placed in the patched areas were the same approximate
thickness as the existing fireproofing materials. At the time of our visit, it appeared that the work areas were
completely covered with fire-proofing materials, no bare steel was observed.
The observations and materials testing as indicated above were performed periodically to provide data to the
Owner, Contractor and Subcontractors to assist them in evaluating the general compliance of the tested
materials and/or work with the contract documents at the times of our observation and testing. We did not
supervise, direct or have any control over any of the Contractor's or Subcontractor's work. We were not
responsible for the Contractor's or Subcontractor's scheduling of our services, means, methods, procedures,
techniques, or sequences of construction, nor responsible for ensuring that any Contractor or Subcontractor
performed or completed the work in accordance with the contract documents or construction industry standards.

The purpose of this site visit was to observe installed metal bracing in the ceiling above
the new wine silo.
The following was noted:
1. The ceiling framing was reinforced in general compliance with the structural
construction documents, sheets S 16, S 17, S 18. The steel support frame in the
ceiling was welded to a steel ridge beam and connected to the circular metal stud
frame above the wine silo with t/2"diameter bolts.
2. Two '/4" thick plywood layers are attached to the metal stud frame. The
contractor shall confirm that the plywood is connected with 8ga. screws at 4 inch
on center along the perimeter of the circle and along panel edges and at 12 inch
on center in the field.
