TOWN OF VAIL
REVENUE UPDATE
December 2, 2025
4.0% General Sales Tax
Upon receipt of all sales tax returns, October 2025 collections are estimated to
be $1,822,862, up 4.0% from 2024 and up 4.0% from the budget.
2025 YTD collections of $35,598,680 are up 3.1% from 2024 and up 3.4% from
the budget. Inflation as measured by the consumer price index was up 3.0% for
the 12-months ending September 2025. CPI was not reported for October 2025
due to the recent government shutdown. The annual budget totals $42.1 million.
0.5% Housing Fund Sales Tax
Upon receipt of all sales tax returns, October 2025 collections of the 0.5% housing
sales tax are estimated to be $219,129, up 4.2% from 2024 and up 1.0% from the
budget. 2025 YTD collections of $4,318,903 are up 3.1% from 2024 and up 1.4%
from the budget. The annual budget for the housing fund sales tax totals $5.2
million.
Real Estate Transfer Tax (RETT)
RETT collections through November 24 total $8,722,436, up 6.7% from 2024. The
number of property sales (excluding time-shares) is tracking up 2.3% from 2024,
while the average collection amount is up 4.5%. The proposed amended budget
for RETT collections totals $8.9 million for 2025.
Construction Use Tax
Use Tax collections through November 24 total $2,273,401 compared to
$2,821,327 in 2024. The budget totals $2.5 million for 2025.
Lift Tax
Lift tax collections through October 2025 total $5,504,043, up 2.0% or $106,877
from October 2024. The budget totals $6,915,427.
Winter Parking Pass Sales
Winter parking pass sales for the 2025 – 2026 season through November 24th total
approximately $963,270 (through November 24th). This compares to
approximately $950,030 at this time last year. The increase in collections from the
prior year is due to the pass price increases implemented for Winter 2025-2026. If
prices not been increased, collections would have been slightly down from the prior
year. The total budget for Winter parking pass sales is $1,240,000.

Summary
Across all funds and excluding one-time grants and reimbursements, year-to-date
total revenue of $86.9 million is up 2.8% from the proposed amended budget and
is flat with the prior year. Compared to the prior year, real estate transfer tax, sales
tax, and parking fee collections have increased, while interest earnings and use
tax collections have decreased.

The Vail Business Review breaks down the 4.5% sales tax collected for the month of
October and the May to October Summer Season. The 4.5% sales tax includes the
town’s general 4% sales tax and the 0.5% housing sales tax supported by Town of Vail
voters during the November 2021 election, effective January 1, 2022. The housing sales
tax sunsets on December 31, 2051.
October 4.5% sales tax was up 4.9% from the prior year. Retail increased 3.9%,
lodging decreased (3.8)%, food and beverage increased 4.5%, and utilities/other
increased 37.2%. Excluding the out-of-town category, sales tax for the month of
October was up 1.2% compared to prior year.
2025 Summer Season 4.5% sales tax was up 3.7% from the prior year. Retail
increased 7.8%, lodging decreased (3.0)%, food and beverage increased 2.2%, and
utilities/other increased 16.2%. Excluding the out-of-town category, sales tax for the
Summer Season was up 0.8% compared to prior year.
