Gore Creek Drive Leonard, I take no exceptions to the request to remove 3 cottonwood trees from town property immediately adjacent to Blu's Restaurant. The trees have overgrown the concrete planting pits and are heavily infested with Aphids causing excessive honeydew residue on the pedestrian walkway and dining deck. There are several requirements that must be placed on the actual work involved in the removal. These are as follows: 1. Concrete unit pavers surrounding the pit, required to be removed, and shall be salvaged for reuse. 2. The existing Town of Vail snowmelt system zone affected shall be drained of glycol/water mix and shall be protected from damage during the course of the work. R and H Mechanical,the town's snowmelt maintenance contractor, shall perform the work at the applicant's expense. 3. The roots,tree grate, concrete planting pit and all electrical outlets, if any, must be removed with the trees. 4. The excavation remaining following removal shall be backfilled with Class 6 Road base compacted to 95%standard proctor density. The applicant shall provide compaction test results from a qualified geotechnical firm. 5. The mechanical contractor shall splice into the existing snowmelt distribution tubing, using manufacturer approved splicing components and methods,to expand snowmelt into areas affected by the work. 6. Concrete unit pavers shall be replaced with the same Holland Stone pavers,Vail Blend color, manufactured by Pavestone to match existing areas in color and pattern. Paver installation, bedding and joint sand specifications shall comply with the Vail Village Streetscape project specifications. SUMMARY The applicant, Rod Slifer, represented by Mark Hallenbeck of Highland Builders, is requesting permission to proceed through the development review process to remove trees on Town- owned property adjacent to the Gore Creek Plaza Building. Gore Creek Plaza is located at 193 E. Gore Creek Drive, and the adjacent town-owned property is located on Lot A, Block 5B, Vail Village First Filing. II. BACKGROUND On April 28, 2000, Blu's Beanery was granted permission to utilize 139.3 square feet of town- owned property adjacent to the Gore Creek Plaza Building for outdoor seating. A five-year contract was granted and was subsequently extended until December 31, 2010. When the streetscape project was implemented on the subject property, three cottonwood trees were left to remain within Blu's outdoor seating area and the snowmelt system was built around them.
