INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS-BURNER
THE ULTIMATE 5TM GAS LOGS SYSTEM
•' MUST BE INSTALLED BY A LICENSED
_ PLUMBER, LICENSED GAS FITTER, OR IN
SOME LOCALITIES A QUALIFIED SERVICE
TECHNICIAN, IN ACCORDANCE WITH ALL
LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL CODES.
If the gas convol valve is installed on the left side of the burner and the
gas supply line comes into the right side of the fireplace, the gas supply
line must continue to the left side of the fireplace (as close to the back
firebox wall as possible) and terminate behind the gas valve inlet using
rigid I/2" black iron pipe. At this point, only the 3/8" aluminum manifold
can be used to complete the connection to the gas convol valve. It may
be necessary to cut and re-flare the aluminum manifold to the desired
length for proper posidoning of the burner pan.
I. Remove all ashes and debris from flreplace.
2. Be sure gas convol valve to fireplace is in the OFF position.
3. Remove gas log lighter for solid-fuel burning fireplace if applicable.
4. To prevent accidenul closing of the fireplace chimney damper,
fireplace chimney damper must be: a) welded FULLY OPEN or b)
completely removed or c) FULLY OPEN using enclosed damper
stop insulled on the edge of your damper plate.
5. (Diagram I) Place ULTIMATE 57A1 burner in fireplace with grate
spokes toward front of fireplace, and front burner in line with
chimney.
6. For a natural gas or liquid propane ULTIMATE 5T"' gas logs system
with a remote control valve or safety pilot valve:
(Diagram 2) NATURAL GAS OR LIQUID PROPANE
A. Apply pipe thread sealer to gas supply line coming into
fireplace (A) and insull 3/8" x I/2" brass suRply fittinr (B);
tighten.
B. Insull longer end of flaa Iminum manifold with 3/8" brass
air nut (C) to 3/S" x I/2" brass supply fitting connected to
gas supply line coming into fireplace, and shorter end (D) to
back of gas convol valve; tighten.
7. For a natural gas ULTIMATE 5"" gas logs system with a manual
valve, or with a key valve in the wall or floor.
(Diagram 3) NATURAL GAS ONLY
A. Apply pipe thread sealer to the gas supply line coming into the
fireplace (A) and install the 3/8" x I/2" brass sppy fittin (B);
tighten.
B. Apply pipe thread sealer to I/2" black iron pipe on burner (C)
and insall the 3/8" x I/2" brass elbow (D); tighten.
C. Insull longer end of flared aluminum manifold with 3/8" brass
flair nut (E) ta 3/8" x I/2" brass supply fitting connected to
gas supply line coming into fireplace, and shorter end (F) to
3/8" x I/2" brass elbow; tighten.
8. When connections are complete, NEVER TEST FOR GAS LEAKS
WITH A LIT MATCH OR FLAME. Slowly turn gas control valve co
ON position and use 50/50 soap and water solution to test for
leaks. Apply 50/SO soap and water solution with a toothbrush or
small paint brush over all gas connections. A leak will be evident by
observation of bubbles on gas connections. If bubbles are
observed, retighten leaking gas connectors.

1.0 DESCRIPTION
The Flue Sentinel Electronic Fireplace
Damper is designed ta increase the comfort
and energy efficiency of residential homes
wth gas-fired fireplaces. Consisting of a
stainless steel pipe/blade assembly and
solid-sta#e cortroiler housed in a weather-
proof enclosure, the damper is installed
outdoors on the top of the chimney of a
gas-fired fireplace The damper
automatically opens the flue outlet when the
fireplace is turned on and automatically
cioses off the filue outlet when the fireplace
is tumed off. By closing off the flue outlet
the fireplace is not in use, the damper
prevents drafts and conserves energy by
preventing heat in the home from escaping
through an opn flue.
FLUE SENTINEL
Tte Flue 5entinel is design crtified by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA} to
CSA Requirement No 2.03-US for Automatic Vet Damper Devices for Use Outdoors
or} Firepiace Chimneys and is covered by U.S. Patent No. 6,915,79.

3 0 Sequence ofi Operation
Wher the fireplace is turned on, a 24V
signaE is sent by the fireplace contral to the
damper controller. The damper controller
motcr then rctates the damper blade,
which is indexed to a cam. to the open
positin tn ailow products of combustion ta
pass through the flue outlet. The cam
proves the damper s in the open pasition
and switches 24V frcam the motor to the
malr gas valve or inition system, which
fres the main bGrnr.
When the fireplaee is turned off, the
fireplace contro{ removes the 24V signal ta
the damper controller, shutting off the main
burner Aftr a 30-40 second delay (when
installed witf a Flue Sentinel Status
Modufej. the damper controller motor then
rotates the damper blade to the closed
postion and resets itself for the next time
the firepiace is turned on.
