Call to Order 2. Citizen Participation 3. Main Agenda 3.1 Swearing in members to serve two-year terms to the AIPP Board by Stephanie Kauffman, Town Clerk: Sharon Cohn, Ali Kelkenberg, and Lindsea Stowe. 3.2 Approval of March 2, 2026 AIPP Board meeting minutes. March 2, 2026 Minutes.pdf Lindsea motions to approve minutes as written. 3.3 Dobson Arena public art update to Dobson Art Selection Committee, Cortney Stell, Jeanna Meacham, Erica Chung - Black Cube Nomadic Art Museum. South Exterior Update: Letha Wilson - Dobson South Exterior Sculpture Proposal Lindsea confirms volcanic rock is not a viable material in the alpine freeze/thaw environment as was presented in Carlos Matos’ proposal. Black Cube recommends the Dobson Art Selection Committee accept the sculpture proposal by Letha Wilson for the south exterior of Dobson Arena. Jordan addresses questions regarding the planter bed for the sculpture placement and the downlighting located in the wood soffit. There will be 4 feet of raw concrete before bronze cladding on façade. Lindsea motions to move forward with accepting and entering into a contract for the proposal of Letha Wilson’s sculpture installation: Lindsea, Susanne, Ali, Sharon, Jared, Kirk, Molly all in favor. Ramsey votes nay. Courney St. John is absent. West Vestibule Update: Black Cube’s recommendation is to not move forward with integrating art within the vestibule because of the lighting design. They recommend pivoting to the exterior of the west entry as an impactful location for art. Cortney and Jordan answer questions about the space with the new Board members who will now serve on the Dobson Art Selection Committee for better understanding of the space. Kirk asks if wall art can be reconsidered on the facing “pediment” wall above the security. Cortney expresses concern due to the low suspended lighting plan and difficulty of installation in this location. Sharon requests a site visit to assess the space architecturally for viable opportunities versus forcing proposals. Lindsea prefers to pause additional exterior sculpture installations and to look towards integrated work into the arena. Molly will arrange a site visit for the new selection committee members and comments on the type of art selected will be reflective of the timeline and those constraints for installation. 3 2 3.4 Vail Art Studio adjacent landscape plan update, Gregg Barrie, Town of Vail Landscape Architect. Revised C-3 and L-1.pdf Gregg reviews the site for the new AIPP Board members and explains the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens’ construction of a creek overlook, as well as the proposed studio patio and walkway. Lindsea comments she prefers preserving the green space and appreciates the update. Additionally, Gregg updates the Board on the Gore Creek Promenade, specifically the stone fire feature by artist William Seale of Ritmo. The fire feature will have a control that will be a push button start to run at 15 min. intervals. 3.5 Heart of the Games interactive community sculpture, GoPro Mountain Games & Vail Valley Foundation. Jeremy Gross - Town of Vail Special Events Program Manager. He is joined by: 970 Design Team with artist Pat Milbery Team. Heart_of_the_Games_Ready.pdf Slade Cogswell, 970 Design, references “Love Vail” branding to develop additional layers to the proposed interactive sculpture at the GoPro Mountain Games along with another concept. A large-scale interactive “Love Vail Corten” steel portal is proposed. Lindsea conveys the large portal would not qualify for being considered for the permanent public art collection criteria. Sharon questions the material durability being used in “Love Vail” sculpture which is responded to by the artist team. Susanne also questions longevity and prefers the smaller interactive sculpture. Ali agrees that the smaller sculpture aligns more with the “Love Vail” messaging. Jeremy sees benefits in both proposals and likes the idea of the portal from a branding perspective. Molly recommends that the portal may be more appropriately reviewed by the Design Review Board/TOV Landscape Architects if integrated into TOV permanent landscape versus AIPP. The Board is gravitating towards the smaller “Love Vail” sculpture as a viable proposal by Pat Milbery. 3.6 AIPP / Art Studio Summer programs. The Board reviews the w orking calendar for summer planning and determines dates for activations. A generous donation was received from the WinMax Foundation for programs and acquisitions. Lindsea would like to ensure we have artist conversations/talks while artists are in residence and community engagement opportunities. She supports the possibility to raise development funds and to supplement the budget for AIPP and studio programs. The Board confirms the late afternoon date of Wednesday, August 5 for the Vail Art Studio Challenge at Avanti F & B. 4. His sculptures are made of diverse materials: bronze, aluminum, steel, glass, resin and wood. The pieces express a personal evolution of a life lived in the contemporary rural West. Some shapes reference flora and fauna. Others allude to the biomorphic. They also resonate with aspects of modernist architecture and design. The sculptures maintain an association with the long arc of art history and rich traditions of the handmade. These sculptures explore both physical and intangible notions: botanical structures, environmental rhythms, physical and emotional solitude, health of the psyche. The American rural West with its untamed spirit, vast rugged landscapes and traditions of mysticism also informs this work. Broel’s sculptures stand as reminders of a fragile ecosystem and the challenges facing our natural resources: rivers, streams, forests. Intentional abstraction creates a sense of timelessness around this body of work. The sculptures are rich in historical reference and stand outside the rapidly shifting visual language of commercialized aesthetics. Broel’s sculptural structures are objects for reflection; counterpoints to the frenetic pace of contemporary society. I envision a colorful modern design, with snow capped peaks in the background; the foundation of why we all live here. A large heart layered with a smaller heart inside, with the VVCF logo inside that; symbolizing the care and compassion rooted deep in our community. Along with colorful helping hands reaching out to the hearts, showing the generosity of our people, always lending a helping hand to our neighbors. I haven't worked out the exact location for the VVCF tagline “It’s all about Heart”, but that is the overarching theme. Possibly stenciled over the lower part of the heart, so it kind of looks like the hands are holding the phrase. I will have stencils cut, by a local artist friend, for the logos and phrases. 19 1 Specifications Paint Materials: ● I plan to use NovaColor Professional Mural Primer, Paint, and Sealer. I have used this paint on several projects, including muralized benches in Avon and Eagle over the past few years, and find it to be easy to work with, it keeps its vibrancy, and holds up great over several years. I have a color bundle, primer, and sealer picked out and ready to order. ○ Will the Town of Vail provide any assistance with… ■ scaffolding - only needed for the highest section over the doorway ■ Cleaning the existing wall Timeline I. May 4th week - Present this proposal to the Town of Vail for approval - Finalize details with VVCF II. May 11th week - Acquire deposit + order supplies - Submit stencil designs for cutting III. May 25th week - Finalize any details, line up tools, equipment, and supplies IV. June 1st week - Get started priming wall - Measure out design - Get painting 20 2 V. June 8th week - Continue painting design - Detailing final design - Clear coat VI. June 15th week - Clear coat sealer - Clean up - Final walk through & “unvailing” ALL of this is weather permitting. I appreciate some leeway into the following week, if we get typical early June storms. 21 HEART OF THE GAMES An interactive community sculpture that becomes a permanent legacy.
