In addition, we observed PCL placing 3/4" rock backfill around the northwest corner of the building with a crane, a bucket, and a vibratory sheepsfoot compactor. While on-site, we observed Vogelman West constructing CMU walls for the upper basement at Gridlines BEE.6 from B57.2 to 65 from 4' to 8' and on Gridline 71 from BHH.9 to BPP.9 from 0' to 4'. We observed the reinforcing steel for specified bar size, spacing, lap splices, and clearance. We observed the CMU construction for mortar thickness, grout, bond beams, cleanliness, ladder steel, and the overall condition of the walls. The walls observed today appeared to be constructed in general accordance with the project plans and specifications. A mortar sample was obtained today and tested for temperature, 53 Degrees F. A grout sample was obtained and tested for slump and temperature, 10" at 61 Degrees F. We also cast compressive strength samples for mortar, grout, and prisms; results will be forwarded upon completion.
