(GRUUND} performed during the deck addition to the Roth Residence located at 2865
Aspen l.ane �n Vail, Colarado. The materials testmg services were perfarmed at ti�nes
sched�ifed by the Contractor andlor Subcontrackors between June 17 and Augi�st 12,
2Q11.
Representatives of our office visited the pr�oject site on J�jne 17, 2011, as scheduled, to
observe the proposed footing subgrade fa� allowable bearang capacity and provide
testing on the concrete placed for these footings. 5�rnples of the structiiral concrete
were periodicaliy t�steci to determine physical propsrties ar�d cor��pressive strength.
A certified welding inspecfor (CWI) visited the project site on August 12, 2011 to
observe the field welcied connections.
Based on the test results to date, field observations, anci ot�ier project docun�entation
receiveci from the desic�n team, it is our opinian ihat the materials tested and/or
observed for the foc�ting s�abgrade, structural c�ncre#e and field welded cannections
were in general �ccordance with ��raject plans, specificatEOns, or a�aplicable RFI's.
The observations and materials testing as indicated at�av� were perforn�ed perfodically
to pro�ide data to the Owner, Car�tractor �nci Suhcontractors to assist tk�em in
evaluating the general compliance of the tested maferials and/or work with the contract
documents at the tEmes af aur observation and testing. We dici not supervise, cfirect or
have any contral over any of the Gontractor's or Suf�contractor's work. We were no#
responsible for the Contractor's or SGfbcontractor's scheduiing of our services, means,
methods, pracedures, techniques, ar sequences of constructtar�, r7or responsible for

As requested, a representative of GROUND arrived at 2865A Aspen Lane, Permit#B10-0411 to
observe welded saddle connection.
The following is a summary of observations performed on this date:
1) Observed welded connection of saddle at the west side where 10x18 connects to 10x18
wood beams. This saddle was found to be in general compliance with the project plans
(Detail 4/A3, S2) and AWS D1.1-10 Table 6.1.

As requested, a representative of GROUND visited the project site on June 17, 2011 to provide
construction materials testing services. We observed the footing excavations for the proposed
deck addition along the south and west sides of the existing residence. In the footing
excavations we observed approximately 2.5ft of dark brown silty top soil, underlain by sands
and gravels with cobbles to a final depth excavated of approximately 4 feet.
Based on our observations of the proposed footing subgrades and our experience with similar
soils in the area, it is our opinion that the subgrade soils are capable of providing the 2000 psf
allowable bearing capacity suggested in the project plans dated 11-01-2010 that were submitted
to our office. We did not provide evaluation of elevations and/or depths as part of our
observations.
