Mike,
This is in response to your review comments for the above referenced project. There are
seven notes that have been placed on the drawings with regards spacing and obstructions
within six different rooms. The areas in questions are:
1. TV Room
2. Living Room
3. Dining Room
4. Guest Suite 3
5. Master Bedroom
6. Master Bath
Items 1, 2 & 3 - The TV Room, Living Room and Dining room have the same sprinkler
layout for all three areas. My understanding of your note is that the sprinkler head in the
pocket will not reach the exterior walls of the rooms . The layout as shown has the
sprinkler heads in between the pockets protecting the exterior wall of the room and the
head in the pocket in designed to cover the pocket area only. The sprinkler head spacing
in between the pockets is 16’x16’ maximum.
Item 4 – The soffits on three sides of guest suite 3 have dimensions of less than 30 inches
and comply with figure 8.10.6.1.2(b). The head is 7” higher than the soffit. The
sprinkler head needs to be a minimum of 16” away from the edge of the small soffit. The
actual dimension is 2’11”. The large soffit against the wall adjacent to the TV room is
larger than 30” and therefore must comply with Table 8.10.6.1.2. The head is 7” higher
than the soffit so the placement must be at least 4’6” away in order for the sprinkler spray
to clear. The head is 4’6” away from the soffit. Additional dimensions have been added.
Item 5 – The sprinkler head in the beam will be 10-5” above the floor (6” coffer). Three
of the soffits at the perimeter of the room are 30” or less so that figure 8.10.6.1.2(b) can
be used. The corner opposite the master bath shower has a soffit width exceeding 30”
therefore table 8.10.6.1.2 (2010) is used to show that the sprinkler spray can clear the
obstruction. The head is 7” above the lower ceiling and must be at least 4’6” away from
the edge. The actual dimension is 4’8” away. The sprinkler will spray to this corner if
placed per the plans. Additional dimensions have been provided.

Item 6 – Master Bathroom – The sprinkler head shown is 7’9” off of the far wall. I have
added a dimension to ensure that the installer know that he is close to the maximum
allowed spacing.
Let me know if there are any questions or if additional information is required.
Sincerely,
Michael Krzastek
