Minor Exterior Alteration
General Information: This application is required for all proposals involving minor changes to buildings and site im-
provements, such as roofing, painting, window additions, landscaping, fences, retaining walls, etc. Applicable Vail
Town Code sections can be found at www.vailaov.com under Vail Information -Town Code Online. All projects re-
quiring design review must receive approval prior to submitting a building permit application. An application for Design
Review cannot be accepted until all required information is received by the Community Development Department, as

Dear Members of TOV Design Review Board:
We are filing an application for a minor renovation to the single family residence at 744 Sandy Lane in
Potato Patch.
The extent of the proposed modifications are strictly exterior in nature, do not affect GRFA, and are
summarized as follows:
AT RESIDENCE STREET SIDE:
1. Replacement of the snow-melted front sidewalk and patio with a new snow-melted sidewalk
and patio with flagstone pavers, built-in gas BBQ grill, and gas fire-pit
2. Removal of a diseased honey-locust tree at the entry
3. Installation of a new stone entry courtyard wall and powder-coated steel slatted entry gate.
4. Replacement of the existing flat-panel garage with a stained cedar garage door per the
elevations
5. Replacement of the existing shutters at the front of the home with new shutters of appropriate
width and hardware to be believable as functioning shutters
6. Replacement of existing exterior wall sconces with dark-sky full cut-out compliant light fixtures
AT RESIDENCE REAR SIDE:
1. Removal and replacement of the existing main level and upper level wood decks with new
heavy timber wood deck structure supporting stone pavers, cedar timber posts, and powder
coated steel railings
2. Addition of a new`transitional' level deck at the southeast of the existing deck to allow for
greater utilization and connection between the main level deck(+1 at rear of house)and the at-
grade lower patio. This new deck level will contain a gas fireplace and space for a table.
3. Addition of retaining boulders(not to exceed 30")to create a small lawn area at grade
4. Removal of portion of the west side of the rear deck and the addition of an access stair from
the west side study down to grade at the west side of the home.
No variance requests or development within the setbacks is proposed. A color/materials chart is
attached, but all wood in the new additions will be a color match to the existing exterior wood stain. All
new and patched stucco will be a color match to the existing stucco color.
