This alternative method was presented in a letter dated March 14, 2008 to John Plano of Safebuild Inc. John responded on March 18, 2008 stating that he was open to alternative methods of design if there was a good basis and stated that an alternate accepted code was considered a good basis. Final calculations wee to be submitted when complete. Attached is a copy of the Uniform Plumbing Code 2006 Chapter 10 Table-3"Gravity Grease Interceptor Sizing". Our project initially planned on using one interceptor however due to the locations of the restaurants in the building the loads were split in two. The East interceptor will take discharge from the Bowling Alley. That interceptor is sized at 1500 gallons. The West interceptor will receive discharge from the Movie Theater, Lobby Restaurants and the Future restaurant. That interceptor is sized at 3000 gallons. Sizing Basis: (UPC Table-10) Bowling Alley fixture unit load 100. Based on UPC Table- 10 a 1500 gallon interceptor is required. Maximum fixture unit load for 1500 gallons interceptor is 172. Movie Theater estimated fixture unit load is 100. Lobby Restaurant estimated fixture unit load is 100 and an estimated 125 fixtures are estimated for future. Based on UPC Table- 10 a 3000 gallon interceptor is required. Maximum fixture unit load for 3000 gallon interceptor is 342. Please let me know if you need any additional information. Frontage Road, Suite A Vail, CO 81657 Re: Solaris Theater Projection Room Ventilation Exhaust Requirements Project No: 2408014-000 Task 0005 Dear Mr. Feeney: This letter is to document previous communication over the past year relative to the code requirements for the Theater Projection Room exhaust and how these requirements are being met by the Solaris project. This letter is also meant to document this subject as discussed with John Plano, Charlie Davis, and Mike McGee on April 8, 2008, at a meeting in the Community Development Center Large Conference Room, Town of Vail. Motion Picture Projection Room code requirements are identified in Section 409 of the 2003 International Building Code (IBC). The General requirements are identified in Section 409.1 of the 2003 IBC. These General requirements identify that the Motion Picture Projection Room section of the code is applicable to "rooms in which ribbon-type cellulose acetate or other safety film is used in conjunction with electric arc, xenon, or other light source light source projection equipment that develops hazardous gasses, dust or radiation". The 2003 IBC Commentary for Section 409.1 (attached)further explains what Safety film is and that the provisions of Section 409 are only applicable only where the hazards of such film used in conjunction with specific light sources produce the hazards of off gassing, dust or radiation. The 2003 Commentary further explains that Section 409 requirements are not applicable where nonprofessional projection equipment is used, except that statements specific to use of cellulose nitrate film apply if such film is present regardless of the nature of the equipment. The equipment to be used in the Solaris Theater Projection Room is digital equipment(attached manufacturer cut sheets)that uses only digital media (hard drive), not film. This equipment does have a Xenon light source for projection of the digital media; however, no film is used by the equipment. Schirmer Engineering Corporation www.schinrereng.com Solaris Theater Projection Room -2- April 30, 2009 Ventilation Exhaust Requirements Project No: 2408014-000 Task 0005 The ventilation requirements of Section 409 of the 2003 IBC are in Section 409.3 and 409.3.1. These requirements indicate ventilation directly to the exterior of the building in accordance with the 2003 International Mechanical Code (IMC). Section 502.11.2 of the IMC is attached for reference. However, since the Solaris Theater Projection Room is not utilizing film, the requirements of IBC Section 409 (specifically Section 409.3.1) and IMC Section 502.11.2, do not apply. The Theater Consultant, Freddie Dobbs with Barco, recommends ventilation for the Solaris Theater Projection Room similar to that designed for computer rooms or telecom rooms to maintain cooling of equipment. In summary, ventilation exhaust directly to the exterior of the building is not required for the Solaris Theater Projection Room. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call. The test results presented in this report apply only to the samples tested and are not necessarily indicatiae of apparent iclentical or similar materials. Sample selection and identification zuere proaided by the client.A sampling plan,if described in the referenced test procedure, zvas not necessarily followed. This report,or the name of Commercial Testin Com an ,shall not be used under an circumstance in adaertisin to the eneral ublic. TESTED TO BE SURE Since 1974 _ "` INTRODUCTION This report is a presentation of results of a surface flammability test on a material submitted by Maharam, Hauppauge,New York. The test was conducted in accordance with the ASTM International fire test response standard E 84-09, Surface Burning Chnracteristics of Building Materinls, sometimes referred to as the Steiner tunnel test. This test is applicable to exposed surfaces such as walls and ceilings. The test is conducted with the specimen in the ceiling position with the surface to be evaluated exposed face down to the ignition source. The ASTM E 84 test method is the technical equivalent of NFPA No.255 and UL No.723. This standard is used to measure and describe the response of materials, products, or assemblies to heat and flame under controlled conditions, but does not by itself incorporate all factors required for fire—hazard or fire—risk assessment of materials, products,or assemblies under actual fire conditions. PURPOSE The purpose of the test is to provide only the comparative measurements of surface flame spread and smoke development of materials with that of select grade red oak and fiber—reinforced cement board, Grade II, under specific fire exposure conditions. The test exposes a nomina124-foot long by 20-inch wide test specimen to a controlled air flow and flaming fire adjusted to spread the flame along the entire length of a red oak specimen in 5.50 minutes. During the 10-minute test duration, flamespread over the specimen surface and density of the resulting smoke are measured and recorded. Test results are calculated relative to red oak, which has an arbitrary rating of 100, and fiber—reinforced cement board, Grade II,which has a rating of 0. The test results are expressed as Flame Spread Index and Smoke Developed Index. The Flame Spread Index is defined in ASTM E 176 as "a number or classification indicating a comparative measure derived from observations made during the progress of the boundary of a zone of flame under defined test conditions." The Smoke Developed Index, a term specific to ASTM E 84, is defined as "a number or classification indicating a comparative measure derived from smoke obscuration data collected during the test for surface burning characteristics." There is not necessarily a relationship between the two measurements. The method does not provide for measurement of heat transmission through the surface tested, the effect of aggravated flame spread behavior of an assembly resulting from the proximity of combustible walls and ceilings,or classifying a material as noncombustible solely by means of a Flame Spread Index. The zero reference and other parameters critical to furnace operation are verified on the day of the test by conducting a 10—minute test using 1/4—inch fiber—reinforced cement board, Grade II. Periodic tests using NOFMA certified 23/32—inch select grade red oak flooring provide data for the 100 reference. TEST SAMPLE The test sample, selected by the client, was identified as Custom Velour—100% Trevira CS Polyester, a textile fabric with a total weight of 14.6 ounces per square yard. The material was conditioned to equilibrium in an atmosphere with the temperature maintained at 71 ±2°F and the relative humidity at 50 ±5 percent. For testing, two lengths of the fabric, one measuring 2 feet wide by 15 feet in length and one measuring 2 feet wide by 9 feet in length, were free laid over a 2—inch hexagonal wire mesh supported by 1/4—inch diameter steel rods spanning the ledges of the tunnel furnace at 24—inch intervals. This method of auxiliary sample support is described in Appendix Xl of the E 84 standard, Guide to Mounting Methods,Sections X1.1.2.2(a)and X1.1.2.3. TEST RESUtTs The test results, calculated on the basis of observed flame propagation and the integrated area under the recorded smoke density curve, are presented below. The Flame Spread Index obtained in E 84 is rounded to the nearest number divisible by five. Smoke Developed Indices are rounded to the nearest number divisible by five unless the Index is greater than 200. In that case, the Smoke Developed Index ' '" is rounded to the nearest 50 points. The flame spread and smoke development data are presented graphically at the end of this report. Test S ecimen Flame S read Index Smoke Develo ed Index Fiber—Reinforced Cement Board,Grade II 0 0 Red Oak Floorin 100 100 Custom Velour—100%Trevira CS Pol ester 5 110 OBSERVATIONS Specimen ignition over the burners occurred at 0.07 minute. Surface flame spread was observed to a maximum distance of 1.28 feet beyond the zero point at 0.57 minute. The maximum temperature recorded during the test was 525°F. CLASSIFICATION The Flame Spread Index and Smoke Developed Index values obtained by ASTM E 84 tests are frequently used by code officials and regulatory agencies in the acceptance of interior finish materials for various applications. The most widely accepted classification system is described in the National Fire Protection Association publication NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, where: Class A 0 — 25 Flame Spread Index 0—450 Smoke Developed Index Class B 26 — 75 Flame Spread Index 0—450 Smoke Developed Index Class C 76 — 200 Flame Spread Index 0—450 Smoke Developed Index Class A, B, and C correspond to Type I, II, and III respectively in other codes. They do not preclude a material being otherwise classified by the authority of jurisdiction. ASTM E 84 TEST DATA Client: Maharam Test Number: 4065-6169 Material Tested: Custom Velour- 100%Trevira CS Polyester Date: April 6, 2009 Test Results: Time to Ignition = 00.07 minutes Maximum Flamespread Distance = 01.28 feet Time to Maximum Spread = 00.57 minutes Flame Spread Index = 5 Smoke Developed Index = 110 20 18 16 14 12 10 c m N 8 0 6 4 2 0 Time, minutes 100 90 80 0 70 60 c 50 . 40 m 30 20 10 0 Time, minutes EQUIPMENT ; FABRIC SPECIFICATI4N FINISH 1 FURNITURE I LIGHTING OTHER — _. __-___. _...- Project Name-# CINEBISTRO SOLARIS-0833 Specitied by (MONICA SANTAYANA 'y, TM%V y rv %µ _,.. _ _._ _._..; i_.. Call out the Scuffmaster finish color number in your finish schedule or on drawings. Scuffmaster color numbers are printed below each color chip in standard sample cards and on the reverse of every custom sample. 2. Call out the Scuffmaster system components required for the substrate being painted in the "products" section of your specification. The EnviroMetal finish systems for common substrates are listed below. IMPORTANT: EnviroMetal is a highly reflective finish that, upon appiication, may exhibit normal color variation that is beyond the control of MCT. Specifically, colors may exhibit slight variation in darkness/lightness upon installation. The degree of surface smoothness prior to product application, applicator technique, and the effects of artificial and natural light sources will also impact the uniformity of finish appearance. New gypsum wallboard may be prepared to a Level 5 finish in accordance with the Gypsum Association's GA214 standard. MCT strongly recommends that specifiers require applicators to prepare a benchmark sample in accordance with PDCA P5-94 "Benchmark Sample Procedure for Paint and Other Decorative Coating Systems." Please refer to the guide specifications for this language. EnviroMetal Paint Systems for Properly Prepared Surfaces 1. Image/Sample w WC-01 ZYSCCJVICH USA & Canada PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS AND TECHNCAL DETAILS Introdction Waterbrush, from Melded Fabrics is a fabrc rane designed and manufactured in Australia for the Commercial Interiors market. The construction of the fabric results in substartial benefits in-situ, such as, new water ripple styling, acoustic absorption, non fray edges, dimensional stability, it is lightweight and is easy to ins4afl. Areas of Use Waterbrush0 is recommended for moderate wear vertical surface finishes where a fresh new appearance is required. The fabrics contained in this range are sitable for a variety of fixed permanent walling areas such as, screens, workstations, partitions, walls, noticeboards, acoustic panels, shop fitting and display. Front Runnerand Preludeo are recommended for more heavy duty applications due to their tough nylon and polyester thermal bonded construction offering more resilience. These applications include exhibit and display stands and operable walls. Velcrouse is only compatible with the Front Runnerand Preludefinishes. Ahesives For semi-porous surfaces Sucn as tmbe, plasterboard or masonry, a thick water based PVA latex adhesive is recommended. Painted surfaces should be lightly sanc#ed before applying adhesive. Very porous surfaces should be sized with diluted adhesive or proprietary sealing agents and allowed to dry for 24 hours prior to proceeding. Proper sizing will also simplify fabric removal in future years. Suggested water based adhesive: National Starch & Chemical 505 4003 (clear drying} National Starch & Chemical 531 7502 For ease of application, this type of adhesive allows far some slippage during installation. It is preferable to use a water based adhesive rather than a contact type. This is applied as a thicker coating providing more hiding power for rougher surfaces to which the fabric is adhered. For higher tack requirements, please discuss the application with your adhesive supplier or distributor. • Apply adhesive evenly to the panel/substrate (not the fabric) using a roller. • Approximately 1 (one)itre of adhesive per 4m2 of panel/substrate area is required. • Do not use excessive glue which may ooze through the fabric resulting in unsightly surface marks. • If adhesive should get on to the fabrics', surface it should be removed by gently padding with a damp cloth before the adhesive dries -or as recommended by the adhesive manufacturer. • Only use a clear drying adhesive for Waterbrush. •To remove fabric applied with a water based glue, simply apply warm water to the fabric with a paintroller. Allow 10-15 minutes for the water to soak in and soften the glue. If the fabric does not peel away easily from the wall, simply apply more water, being careful not to damage the substrate. For non-porous surfaces sucn as metai, laminates or enamel, a spray or brush on contact adhesive is usually the mst effective bonding method. Suggested contact adhesives are: National Bondmaster 832-01 (Beta 1447) When using contact adhesives please ensure: • Adequate ventilation of the area is essential. • If adhesive should get on to the fabric surface it should be removed with thinners (used sparingly) before the adhesive dries -or as recommended by the adhesive manufacturer. • Do not use coloured contact adhesives as the colourant may bleed to the fabric surface. For appiication directly to new or existing PVC vinyi covered suraces, a dedicated water based "vinyl- to-vinyi"type adhesive may be more suitable. Other specialised water based adhesives can also be effective and specific requirements should be discussed with the adhesive manufacturer. ALL ADHESIVES SHOULD BE USED N ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURERS' RECOMMENDATIONS AND NSTRUCTIONS. meldedfabrics.com Insallation Hints Before cutting, examine goods to rnake certain cotour and pattern are satisfactory and as ordered. • Check batch numbers on the roll label. Due to batch to batch variation do not attempt to butt join different batch numbers (except for joins at 90°). • Where possible use a single batch for a defrned area. If multipfe batches have to be used then select batches which merge with each other. • Ensure each strip is hung in the same direction to avoid apparent colour differences caused by pile direction changes. • Check each strip for faults. Minor faults are identified with a plastic tag at the edge of the fabric and a standard allowance is given for these faults. • Keep short sections for other areas of the job. • Hang the fabric from the top, gradually working down. Light pressure will ensure an effective bond, avoid using wallpaper or vinyl rollers particularly on fabric joins. • Clear water based adhesives, such as N'ational 505-4003 or a PVA latex, will allow some slippage for butt joining. Alternatively you may overlap the fabric and eut through both layers of fabric, along a straight edge, to achieve a good join. • Remove excess adhesive immediately after each seam is completed via the methods described earlier. • There are hidden diagonal lines in the emboss paftern which can be seen when the product is viewed obliquely. Successive drops of fabric should line up these patterns. •After three strips of fabric have been installed, examine the fabric for colour uniformity. Any objectionable variations in colour must be immediately communicated to your distributor's representative, or your Melded Fabrics representative. Acoustic Properties Not only does the textural appearance of Waterbrushaid designers in creating the feeling of a quiet environment, it also contributes an important functional role in absorbing sound. The absence of back coatings or chemical binders ensures that they are at their most effective when applied over an acoustically absorbent substrate. The open, air permeable construction of the fabric wiil allow the absorbent backing to function most effectively. Please note that Melded Fabrics recommends that a qualified acoustic engineer be consulted where a significant noise reduction or specific result needs to be achieved.
