Capital of Texas Highway Suite 350 li Ida: 7 i Austin, Texas 78746 (mangelo vi ch @npraust in. com) Job No. 110 148A Subject: Additional Observation of Underdrain Installation, Basement Addition to Existing Residence, Lot 6A, Block 2, Filing 6, Vail Village, 725 Forest Road, Vail, Colorado Dear Mr. Angelovich: As requested by Isaac Barela with Beck Builds, a representative of Hepworth - Pawlak Geotechnical observed the underdrain installation as it continued at the subject site on December 29, 2010 to evaluate compliance with the design. The findings of our observations and recommendations are presented in this report. We previously observed the partial foundation excavation for the basement addition which included observation of the drain mat material behind the initial four new basement wall areas (sequenced construction) and submitted our findings in a report dated June 10, 2010, Job No. 110 148A. The design for the underdrain system was provided in our report dated October 8, 2010 under the above job number. At the time of our December 29 site visit, the remaining basement wall areas had been constructed and backfilled, but the basement floor slab has not been constructed. During our visit, we observed the below basement floor slab piping to be in -place as generally reconunended in our design. Some modifications to the piping layout from the schematic alignment recommended in our report were needed per the contractor due to footings and utilities. The piping was a minimum 1 foot below proposed floor slab elevation and sloped to the sump in the mechanical room area. There were separate non - perforated pipes below the floor slab area for drainage from the window well areas. We also observed drain mat material extending from below all basement wall areas to the edges of the adjacent new footings. The underdrain system appears to have been installed as generally recommended by us. The modifications to the drain layout should not affect the drain performance and are acceptable. The backfill of the pipe trenches and below the floor slab should consist of the previously specified drain gravel. The drain mat material should continuously l .li it`I' 'l' } 7•{ l i `} V4 l .i!t rl !,i `• ,s (; 1"A Jil J ll Michael Angelovich December 31, 2010 Page 2 connect with the underslab drain gravel. Filter fabric can be placed around the perorated pipe sections and trench drain gravel backfill as needed. Other recommendations presented in our previous report which are applicable should also be observed. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please call our office.
