The Intelligent Thermal Sensors contain a dual thermistor
sensing circuit for fast response. They provide open
area pro#ection with 50 foat spacing. The sensors rapid
response characteristic virtually eliminates the thermal lag
which is charactenstic of conventional heat detectors and
insures operation as soan as the temperature reaches its
set paint (MIX 251 B); or upon a temperature rise of 15°F
per minute (MIX-5251 RB). The MIX 251 H provides fixed
high temperature detectian at 190°F. These sensors can be
mounted in a number of different bases. See the Ordering
Infonration for a list of these bases and their descriptions.
Panel. Point ID capability allows each detector's acldress
to be set with decade address switches; providing exact
detector locatioris for selective maintenance when charnber
contamination reaches an unacceptable level.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The SpectrAlert Advance series of notifiealion appliances oilers a wide range
f horns, etrobes, and horn/s±robes. for wall and ceiling applicaions, indoors
and ou!doors. Thep are designed to be used in 12 or 24 rolt, DC ar FVR
(full wave rectified) sVSems. These products are electrically baekward compat-
i67e with the previous generacion of SpectrAlert ntification apptiances. Hurn/
strobe products are available in ttvo cersions. The 2-cire produc[s fit systems
where a single tiAC controls both horn nd s[robe. The d-wire products ire iii-
tended for sestems fiich have separate wiring circuits for the horn and strobe.
All SpeetrAlert tldvanm products ae suitable foi use in synchronized systems.
The System Seusor I9DL module may be used to provide yndironization.
K Series products are designed to be used uvei a cvider rane of temperatures
and are suitable for use in wet locations.
Wall and ceiling products may be used interchangeably (wall products may be
used on the ceiling and ceiling products ma} be used on the wall.)
FIRE ALARM SYSTEM CONSIDERATIONS
The National Fire Alarm Code, NFPA 72, requires that all horns, used tur
building evacuation produce temporal coded sinals. Signals other Iha those
used for evacuation purposes do io have to produce the temporal coded sig-
nal. System Sensor recommends spacing notification ap}liances in compli-
ancc with NFPA iZ.
The products in this manual may be covered by one or more of

LOOP DESIGN AND WIRING
"Che ysten designer must make sure lhal the loal current drawn b}- tLe de-
cices nn the loop does not exceed Lhe current capability of the panel supply,
and diat the last decice on the circuii is operated within its rated voltage.
The current draw informatioi for making these calculation can tie fuund in
the tables withi this manual. For convenience and accuracy. use tne voltagc
drop calculatur on the Spstem Sensor website (wwcc.s}stemsensor.com; or
Cll-R01v1.
'hcn clculting thF voltge available to the lst device, it is necessary to
considci the volt ige drop dne [o the resistuue of the uire. "I'he thlckei the
wire, the smaller tle voltage drop. LVire resistance tables can be obtained
irom electrical handbooks. Note that if Class A wiring is installed, tle wire
leugtl may be up to taice as long as it vould be fo: circuita that are uot
fault tolerant.
NOTE: For l4 volt appiications, the total number ot strobes on a single NAC
must not exceed 4Q riU a maximum loop resistance of 120 ohms. For 12 eult
applications, the total number of su'nUes must not exceed 12, cith a maxi-
mum loop resistance of 30 ohms.
D690-O.i-0O 1 ISG 2'G9-OOK
For 4-Wire installations, terminals 1, 2, and connect ro the strobe; lerminals
4 and y connect to the hurn. The horn and strube circtits must be vired in
iiependeidy, and each circuit must be terminated with the appropriate EOL
device. Remuval of a notificatlon device 1ifl result in an open eircuit indica-
tion on tle suobe loop.
