INTRODUCTION: � On August 22nd, 2006,an iaspection/survey was conducted and 20 bulk samples were collected from the: The LandMark . . 610�W. LionsHead Circle � Vail,CO. 81657 . The purpose of the inspection/survey was to locate and sample suspected asbestos containing materials that might be present in the Residence t6at is planned for demolition. The inspection was made,and the samples were collected by John R. Peterman, an A.H.E.R.A. and State of Colorado Certified Asbestos Inspector. Great care was taken during the inspection and sampIing to be as accurate as possible. It should be noted that minimal damage was done to the existing building structures during the inspectioa so there is no documentation for unseen conditions or stored items. All samples were anaiyzed by DCM Science Lab in Wheatridge,CO. This laboratory is deemed `�roficient"in t6e E.P.A.Quality Assurance(QA} program for the determination of asbestos in buik materials, aad is accredited by the American Hygiene Association(AHA). SAMPLING PROTOCUL: A random sampling scheme was used to sample the suspect materials that were discovered. LionsHead Circle Vail, CO. 81657 BUII,DING DESCRIPTION: � The LandlVlark consists of two multi-story baildings with a connecting underground parking garage, The Tower Building is the east building with seven stories, and a garage level. The Town House building has single level units on the first floor,and loft units on the tip levels. This survey covers the inside of the buildings. 'The interior walls are oovered in sheetrock with a light texture, and wood paneling. Note: In some areas a texlure has been ti»weled'over the original finisli. The ceiliags are sheetrock with a heavy spraY-on texture, and twin tee concrete with the same spray-on texture. The basement area,has suspended ceiling tiles throughout, and most have been replaced not long ago. The older tiles were tested in the Billy's Grill area. 1be floors are covered with carpet, ceramic tiles, and sheet vinyl flooring. The sheet vinyl was not tested in this survey. The heating is provided by baseboard heating, and fireplaces. No suspect therm�I system insulation was observed during this inspection, The garage ceiling had a spray-on fire proofing that was mostiy removed prior to this inspection. However,the Asbestos content is less than the Regulatory Limit (Greater tban 190 Asbestos). The Asbestos content of the samples was verified by the Requit�ed point Count Analysis. The sa,mples collected were � taken from the original areas of the buildings. If conditions are encountered that are not the originai constructian, additional testing or documentation may be required. If the renovation work will impact on the three presumed Asbestos containing materials listed, the P.A.C.M. must be handled as per Colo. Bulk samples are prepared for analysis using a 1QX-80X sberea microscope in a hepa filter hood which provides a contaminabon-free environment The sample is then ana(yzed by po�ari¢ed Iight microsc�py(PLIN)at 100X. When the sample cansists of more than one fayer,each layer is prepared�d analyzed separatety. Fiber and matroc materials are iden6fied by the characterizatlon of opticat properties including color and pleochrorisrrt, form�deavage;r�elief;:birefringence,exxtinction�orientation,twinning,interferenoe figure and other distinguishing feahires. D�spersion staining is also used to further aid'm mineral identifica6on. All peroentages of asbestos, other fibers and non-fibrous constitueMs are catculated trom fhe values obtained from the stereo and PCM � microscopes analysis. tn-hause and NIST shandar�ds as wett as a cha�t prepared by R.D.Terry and G.V.
