Just finished the revisions, I wasn't able to get the signage to 4 sqft and still have it legible so I did what Warren said and
made it as small as I thought it could be and still be functional. Changed anything that was illuminated to push thru halo
like we talked about and shortened the main monument to the same height as what's there now. I've handed off the
drawings to my exterior installation manager, Heath Heideman, to get the paperwork together for the variance
application so you should be hearing from him soon. As always, your help with this project is greatly appreciated.

Hey Jim,
I left you a lengthy voicemail about the variances needed for the proposed signs at the Vail Valley Medical Center.
In summary: sign Type B, Type F, and Type E1.a are "traffic control signs for private property" that require a variance
from Section 11-7-7, Vail Town Code, that limits these signs to no more than four (4) square feet in size. Additionally,
the already installed Howard Head sign is a"business identification" sign that requires a variance from Section 11-6-3,
Vail Town Code, that limits this sign to a size of 6 square feet. At your convenience, please submit a"sign variance"
application for review by the Town of Vail Planning and Environmental Commission.
Question: Does the Vail Valley Medical Center have the need, or desire, to install any additional exterior signage for the
various individual businesses in the building (other than Howard Head) through a joint directory or individual business
signs?
I will be out of the office until Monday, March 14`h. In my absence please feel free to contact Warren Campbell in our
office at 970-479-2148 or wcampbell@vailov.com
Sincerely,
Bill

Subject: VVMC sign variance (PEC110020)
Attachments: PEC110020 VVMC signs.pdf
Hey Heath,
Please find attached a copy of the sign variance approval for the proposed Vail Valley Medical Center traffic control
signs.
It sounds like Tom with Sign Safari has discussed with you the Design Review Board's comments and questions from
their May 4th hearing. The proposed signage has been scheduled for further review by the Town of Vail Design Review
Board on Wednesday, May 18th
Sorry we keep playing phone tag. Hopefully,we can catch one another by phone to discuss the following items:
• The new entry monument sign (Type A) can be no wider or taller(in elevation)than the existing monument
sign. The signs are located within the required driveway sight distance area, and present challenges for drivers
leaving the medical center to see vehicular traffic on West Meadow Drive. The Public Works Department will
allow the existing sign size to be maintained, but not enlarged.
• A physical sample of the proposed material must be submitted for review. To our knowledge, the proposed
Trespa Meteon material has not been proposed or approved for any other signs within the Town of Vail. The
Design Review Board will consider this material within the Sign Regulation's Design Guidelines such as:
C. Be composed of predominately natural materials which may include, but are not limited to,painted, stained,
solid, or carved wood;brick;stone;wrought iron or metals such as copper or brass that have been treated to
prevent reflective glare; nonreflective glass and stained glass; other naturally textured building materials. Plastic
and other synthetic materials that are not naturally textured, such as sign foam, vinyl or Plexiglas®, are
discouraged.
• Details for the proposed sign lighting must be submitted.
• Please verify that on the signs with push-through letters, the face of the letters will be an opaque (not
translucent) material.
Sincerely,
Bill
