The deck is framed with TJL joists that have a concrete topping. These joists were designed when the live snow load for these decks were smaller than currently required. We are not able to analyze these bar joists, because they are a proprietary product, designed by the manufacturer. The additional loads of 6.75 psf will potentially exceed the allowable deck loading and the header beam capacity in the unit below. Monroe and Newell Engineers, Inc. would be able to provide a letter stating that an additional floor finish load of 3.5 psf for thin set tile should be structurally acceptable, but not an additional stone tile load of 6.75 psf. We believe that this additional loading would not allow the deck framing live loads that are required by the building department. The purpose of our review was to determine, if the existing stone veneer can be removed and new thin veneer can be installed. In addition our office will review existing framing conditions on site during the beginning of removal of the stone veneer and provide repair options, should additional structural support be required. We noted the following: 1. The stone veneer appears to be continuous vertically with only decking interrupting the stone. Therefore the interior veneer inside the unit is supporting the veneer above the roof structure. In some units the veneer also provides support for roof beams and roof decking. 2. The existing stone veneer inside the unit can be removed, but a new steel support angle will have to be installed as shown in the attached section S 1. 3. The new design of the fireplace includes the installation of cabinetry on the south side of the fireplace mass. The existing CMU box can be removed partially as shown in the attached partial fireplace elevation. The remaining CMU fireplace wall shall be supported as shown in the attached fireplace elevation and section S2. 4. The location of the existing fireplace flue from the units below shall be located during construction. 5. The sampiing activfies were completed on June 15, 2007. As of the date af this repart, the site is cbsed. This report presents the results of the asbestos sampling and subsequent laboratory analysis. SCOPE OF WORK Tetra Tech's scope of work for this p�oject included collection of bulk samples oi suspect asbestos containing materials by personnel cert'rfied as Asbestos Inspectors by the State of Colorado Department of Public Heatth and Environment (CDPHE) and the Emrironmental Protection Agency (EPA). Results are included in this report. The scope of work for this assessmerrt included the foltowing: • Conducted a visual inspection of afl areas of the residerniat units on the property to locate suspected asbestos containing building materials (ACBM) and presumed asbestos containing material (PACM) • Collect bulk samples from each suspect material for asbestos content analysis by Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) at an independent laboratory • Prepare a written report which presenis the resufts of ihe sampling conducted This comprehensive asbestos survey included ali accessible areas of the residential units located at Manor Vail. However, inaccessible are�s oiten exist within buildings. This couk! include pipe chases, boiler components, areas behind waHs, and hidden spaces below floors. Tetra Tech sampled all materials which could be accessed and iderrt'rfied. Materials may exist within the building, o� beneath the solids on the property, which were nqt readily ident'rfiable. If any additional suspect materials are encountered during demolition activities, Tetra Tech recommends that work be stopped immediately untit discovered materials can be evaluated by a certified Asbestos Inspector_ SAMPUNG PROCEDURES Suspect materials were grouped into homogeneous areas based on iheir physical characteristics, color, iexture, and functional application. Suspect materials were divided into one of three categories based on the following homogeneous area classification schemes recognized by regulatory agencies: 1. Thermal systems insulation (TSt): any type of pipe, boiler, tank or flue insulation 2. Surfacing material: sprayed or troweled onto structural building members 3.
