This unique, patented technology meets NFPA 72 field sensitivity testing requirements without the need for external meters. Additional diagnostic information is activated by applying a magnet near the detector's integral reed switch. This initiates a self- diagnostic routine and provides visual indication of sensitivity level, or if service is required. This series is easily cleaned by simply replacing ESL's proprietary field- replaceable optical chamber. All models are designed to reduce false alarms from dust, insects, RFI, and external light. An integral combination rate -of -rise and fixed 135 °F (57 °C), 50 -foot rated, heat sensor is available with all "T" model detectors (see selection guide), allowing latching of the alarm for either smoke or heat. The 449CSRH includes an isolated alarm output for heat and activates an internal non - latching sounder (local alarm) for smoke, making it ideal for motel /hotel and dormitory rooms where smoking is permitted. continued ESL 449 Series Smoke Detectors Architectural and Engineering Specifications The ESL 449 Series low - profile, self- diagnostic, four -wire smoke detectors work on the light scattering principle. A pulsed infrared light- emitting diode serves as the light source, and a high -speed photodiode as the sensing element. When the amount of light reflected onto the photodiode reaches the sensitivity setting, the smoke sampling rate increases. Three (3) successive smoke sensings above the sensitivity setting are required to sound an alarm. This design has superior protection against false alarms caused by dust, insects, RF and ambient - light. A confirmed alarm causes the normally flashing power indicator LED to light continuously and the alarm relay to operate. A trouble indication is automatically displayed by flashing the LED every second. This meets NFPA 72 field sensitivity testing requirements. An internal 85 dB horn (available in "S" models) emits a temporal 3 when the detector alarms and a steady tone when power polarity is reversed. These detectors are designed to provide open area coverage and are compatible with Honeywell's VISTA controls supporting V -Plex technology. An LED on the detector will blink periodically during normal conditions, remain on steady during alarm and cease to pulse if the chamber is out of acceptable sensitivity range. An extremely powerful feature available within the 5192 Series is the Automatic Maintenance Alert/Reporting capability — a feature normally found in today's high end analog addressable systems. The detectors continually monitor their own sensitivity levels in addition to the basic normal and alarm conditions. These HIGH and LOW SENSITIVITY signals are communicated back to the FEATURES • Low profile design • V -Plex addressable loop device • Automatic maintenance reporting APPLICATIONS Honeywell control, via the V -Plex addressable loop, to indicate locally and at the central station that the detector may not be able to detect smoke or may false alarm. This feature works with VISTA -32171B, 12813P, 128FBP, 2506P, 250FBP, 40, 50P, 100 -24 and FAP FA1600C, FA1660C and FA1700C. More important is the cost saving associated with Automatic Maintenance Reporting. The feature is an approved alternate to NFPA 72 field sensitivity calibration testing that require external test meters. This eliminates the need to schedule inspections to determine detector sensitivity /viability. Another important benefit of these V -Plex (addressable) smoke detectors is their ability to operate on existing wiring. There is no need to run special twisted pair, data grade or shielded wires, providing you with the right choice for all your retrofit applications. That equates to cost savings in time and materials! • Available with integral heat sensor • Simple 2 wire installation • DIP switch or serial number programmable • Lines on existing or conventional wiring The 5192 Series smoke detectors are designed to provide open area coverage and are well suited for most fire detection applications. These smoke detectors are compatible with all Honeywell VISTA Fire and Burglary controls that support V -Plex addressable loop technology. These agency listed alarm initiating devices support most commercial and residential applications. They are suited for use in museums, hospitals, day care centers, retail stores, strip malls, schools, libraries, fast food chains, medical or professional office suites and in factory and warehouse environments. 5192SD/5192SDT V- PLEXTM SMOKE DETECTOR SPECIFICATIONS Installation The 5192 Series smoke detectors are supplied with a convenient mounting bracket that allows the detector to be mounted to a variety of electrical junction boxes. Charge until battery voltage (undercharge) reaches 14.40 to 14.70 volts at 68 °F (20 0C). Hold at 14.40 to 14.70 volts until current drops to approximately 70mA. Battery is fully charged under these conditions, and charger should either be disconnected or switched to "float" voltage. "Float" or "Stand -By" Service: Hold battery across constant volt- age source of 13.50 to 13.80 volts continuously. When held at this voltage, the battery will seek its own current level and maintain itself in a fully charged condition. NOTE: Due to the self- discharge characteristics of this type of bat- tery, it is imperative that they be charged after 6 -9 months of stor- age, otherwise permanent loss of capacity might occur as a result of sulfation.
