Background: The Tennis Center is owned by the Town of Vail (TOV)and leased to the Vail Recreation District(VRD)to operate. The VRD,working with the TOV staff began replacing the curb and fencing along the tennis courts in 2007 beginning with courts 3&4. In the spring of 2010 we replaced the curb and fence on courts 1&2. We are now preparing to replace the curb and fence on courts 5 through 8. We are proposing to duplicate the work completed on courts 1 through 4. Purpose: The purpose of this project is to replace the failing curb, used to contain the hydro grid system that keeps the clay surface moist,as well as to replace the fence that is currently in significant dis-repair. Details: This project will involve the removal of the existing cinder block and brick curb and replacement with a poured concrete curb. It also involves removing the existing posts and fencing to be replaced with new posts and fence. The posts with be powder coated black and fencing will have black rubber coating. This will be done to the exact specifications completed on courts 1 through 4. The curb on courts#3&4 were replaced in the Fall of 2007,courts#1&2 were replaced in the Spring of 2010 and we would now like to replace the curb and fencing on courts 5 through 8 to look exactly like the walls on courts#1 through 4. I have detailed existing conditions for the proposed project. Existing Conditions: Wall and fence detail: This is the existing curb and fence on courts 5 through 8 that we would like to replace. The old curb was constructed with cinder block and a brick ridge top. We are very happy with this wall and feel the natural concrete creates a nice"frame"of the green clay court as well as compliments y the court lines and netting. The black fence posts and fabric also match the black tennis net posts. This fence condition has resulted in an injury during the 2009 tennis season.
