AIR SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
November b. 1990

RE: The Mountain Haus
Rooms 550/552
Gentieman ,
Enclosed are final air sample reports submitted by A.S.P. ,
Inc . fior the above listed project.
Initially A.S.P. , Inc . collected and analyzed background
samples on 9/23/40 Report 90-03803. The oniy sample with
a background ount higher than 0.013 was 40-03805. The
location ofi this sample was in rooms 550/552 rooms where
further abatement was done. Samples were also collected
for the building owner to determine ifi possible contamination
had occurred in the hallway outside room 550/552. The air
monitoring result does not indicate that contamination had
occurred. On 9/27/90 A.S.P. , Inc . returned to continue
monitoring . The report for the samples collected on that day
is Report 40-03855.
The abatement project, rooms 550/552, began on 10/10/90.
No samples were collected on this day. The abatement crew
and A.S.P. , Inc ' s. hygienist only loaded materials and
equipment into the building to begin work on 10/il/40.
Report 90-04480 was the first day of sampie collection .
Sample 90-044B0 was above 0.01 fibers per cc . At no time
was the door to the work area open on 10/11/90. The
abatement crew set up the decontamination unit. The crew
used cardboard in between layers ofi plastic sheeting in
order to catch a water leak before it damaged the carpet.
The reason fior this is that the crew must shower out when
leaving the containment, this precautionary measure would
help to reduce such damage if a leak occurred . The fiber
count was elevated due to the cutting and placing of this
cardboard material . Abatement did not begin until i0/12/40.
The outside work area samples abbreviated 6700 OWA ## are
the representative samples collected to ensure that no
contamination ofi the outside area occurs.

In the following reports: 90-04487
90-04497
90-04509
the outside work area samples indicate no outside contamination
from the work area as a result ofi the abatement contractors
removal procedures. Report 90-04520 is a final report of
a final clearance sample collection . The results firom this
report indicate that the area, more specitically the air
concentration was not low enough to allow the abatement
contractor to remove their barriers. A second final clearance
sample was collected afiter recleaning and reencapsulation ofi the
area. This final clearance report 90-04b26 indicated the air
concentration was at an acceptable level for the abatement contra
contractor to remove their barriers .
After the abatement project was completed and the abatement
contractor had moved their material to another location in
the building. Beck & Associates requested that A.S.P. , Inc .
to collect additional background samples in the area around
unit 550/552. Report 40-05074 lists the analytical results
and the locations firom these sample collection and analysis
procedures.
Gentleman , If I can be of any further service by answering
your questions or continuing further work efforts please
don ' t hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely
. ,--

Mr. Gary Murrain
Town of Vail Building
Official
75 South Frontage Road
Vail, Colorado 81657
Hello Gary, .
Thank you for meting with me yesterday to discuss our
plans to combine Units 550 and 552 at the Mountain Haus
into one unit.
As we discussed, a hardship exists in providing natural
light to the proposed den/study. Because of the location
of existing plumbing walls, which serve units above and
below Unit 552 , the den/study must be located where no
natural light is available.
Because of this hardship, we request that you permit the
den/study to be constructed as we propose. As we also dis-
cussed, we propose to provide full-time ventilation to the
room, to meet all code requirements.
Thank you for your consideration.
Best r gards,
J s R. Morter, AIA
