VVMC sign variance (PEC110020)

Hey Heath,
Please find attached a copy of the sign variance approval for the proposed Vail Valley Medical Center traffic control
signs.
It sounds like Tom with Sign Safari has discussed with you the Design Review Board's comments and questions from
their May 4 th hearing. The proposed signage has been scheduled for further review by the Town of Vail Design Review
Board on Wednesday, May 18
Sorry we keep playing phone tag. Hopefully, we can catch one another by phone to discuss the following items:
The new entry monument sign (Type A) can be no wider or taller (in elevation) than the existing monument
sign. The signs are located within the required driveway sight distance area, and present challenges for drivers
leaving the medical center to see vehicular traffic on West Meadow Drive. The Public Works Department will
allow the existing sign size to be maintained, but not enlarged.
A physical sample of the proposed material must be submitted for review. To our knowledge, the proposed
Trespa Meteon material has not been proposed or approved for any other signs within the Town of Vail. The
Design Review Board will consider this material within the Sign Regulation's Design Guidelines such as:
C. Be composed of predominately natural materials which may include, but are not limited to, painted, stained,
solid, or carved wood; brick; stone; wrought iron or metals such as copper or brass that have been treated to
prevent reflective glare; nonreflective glass and stained glass; other naturally textured building materials. Plastic
and other synthetic materials that are not naturally textured, such as sign foam, vinyl or Plexiglas®, are
discouraged
• Details for the proposed sign lighting must be submitted.
• Please verify that on the signs with push- through letters, the face of the letters will be an opaque (not
translucent) material.
Sincerely,
Bill
