I have revi wed the proposed snowpad and snowfence specifications and layo�it for the above referenced project arxi have
checked t e fastener attschment of the brackets and snowpads to the roof subsVate, nailbase, and structural framing. I was
ir�fortned t at 3" of rigid insulation with a 1!2" nailbase will be applied directly to the roof sheathing, so 2x blocking will be
required a all snowfence connedions. It is assumed that the strudural framing consists of pre-manufactured roof trusses at
24" on ce er, and all blocking at snowfence connections are assumed to attach to these trusses This review is stridly
limited to e snowpads and snowfences as shown on the roof plan received on May 09, 2011
The roof p n shows a layout cansisting of snowpads in a 2' x 3' pattern throughout and a snowfence near the eave, around
most of th perimeter. The required snowpad pattem according to the snowguard manufacturer for a 100 pounc�per-square-
foot (ps� ow load consists of three rows near the eave in a 1'�Q' pattem. However, the snowfence is intended to repiace
these low three rows.
After revie �ng the intended layout on the roof plan it appears that snowpads should be added to the eave just below the
plan-noRh ide of the high-roof fower as discussed. This area shall consist of snowpads in the 1'�Q' pattem. The snowpads
shall also xtend to the ridge (eliminating the 4' gap from the ridge to the first row of snowpads). Also, it is my understanding
that the pl n-west side of this high tower is of no consequence from sliding snow. Please let us know if this is not the case
i for further now retention requirements in this area.
Each of th snowpads shall be attached to the nailbase with at least (6)-nails per snowpad. The blocking for the snowfence
' brackets s a(I consist of (2)-2x6's (rivo feet bng, min.), and shall be attached to the roof trusses with (2)-6" Timberlok screws
at each en of blxking (4screws total). The snowfences shall be attached to the 2x blocking with (3)-3/8° diameter x 3° lag
screws at ach bracfcet.

The sno ads wiN consist of the #10 Half-round Pad-style by Alpine Snowguards, and the snowfencing will consist of the
314W with (2)-aluminum pipes, also by Afpine Snowguards.
� Based on y review of the Alpine Snowguard snow restraint system as presented and the verbal infoRnation discussed, my
calculation show that (with the revisions mentioned} the system is in compliance with the 1Q6 psf required design snow load
and the r uirements of the 2009 Intemational Building Code.

1 have reviewed the proposed snowpad and snowfence specfications and layout for the abave referenced project arxt have
checked the fastener attachment of the bradcets and snowpads to the roof substrate, naitbass, and strudural framing. I was
infomied that 3" of rigid insulation with a 12" nailbase will be applied direcdy to the roof sheathing, so 2x blocking will be
required at all snowfence wnnec�ions. �t is assumed tha# the structural framirzg consists of pre-manufactured roof trusses at
24° on center, and all blocking at snowfence connecbons are assumed to attach to these trusses. This review is stricdy
limited to the snowpads and snowfe�ces as shown on the roof plan received o� May 09, 2011
The roaf plan shows a layout consisting of snowpads in a 2' x 3' pattem thraughout and a snvwFence near the eave, around
most of the perimeter. The required snowpad pattem according to the sr�owguard manufadurer �or a 100 pound-per-square-
foot (psfl snow load consists of three rows near the eave in a 1'�f1' pattem. However, the snowfence is intended to replace
these lawer three rows.
After reviewing the intended layout on the roof plan it appears that snowpads should be added to the eave just below the
plan-north side of the high-roof tower as discussed. This area shall consist of snowpads in the 1'x2' pattem. The snowpads
shaq also extend to the ridge (eliminating the 4' gap from the ridge to the first row of snrnvpads). Also, it is my understanding
that the plan-west side of this high tower is of no consequence from sliding snow. Please let us know if this is not the c�se
for further snow retention requiremenfs in this area.
Each of the snowpads shall be attached to the nailbase with at least (6}nails per snowpad. The blocking for the snowfence
brackets shail consist of (2)-2x6's (iwo feet long, min.), and shall be attached to the roof trusses with (2)-6" Timberlok screws
at each end of bloddng (4screws tota�. The s�owFences shatl be attached to the 2x bfockirsg with (3�3/8° diameter x 3° lag
screws at each bradcet.
The snowpads will consist af the #10 Nalf-rour�d Pad-style by Alpine Snowguards, and the snowFenang wdl consist of the
314W with (2)-aluminum pipes, also by Afpine Snowguards.
Based on my review of the Alpine Snowguard snow restrairrt system as preserrted and the verbal information discussed, my
calculafions show that (with fhe r�visions mentione� the system is in compliance with the 100 psf required design snow load
and the requirements of the 20091ntemational Building Code.
