It uses either a two -piece Style 10 (1/2 inch NPT) or Style 40 (3/4 inch NPT) Recessed Es- cutcheon with 1/2 inch (12,7 mm) of recessed adjustment or up to 3/4 inch (19,1 mm) of total adjustment from the flush pendent position, or a two -piece Style 20 (1/2 inch NPT) or Style 30 (3/4 inch NPT) Recessed Escutcheon with 1/4 inch (6,4 mm) of recessed adjust- ment or up to 1/2 inch (12,7 mm) of total adjustment from the flush pen- dent position. The adjustment provided by the Recessed Escutcheon reduces the accuracy to which the fixed pipe drops to the sprinklers must be cut. Corrosion resistant coatings, where applicable, are utilized to extend the life of copper alloy sprinklers beyond that which would otherwise be ob- tained when exposed to corrosive at- IMPORTANT Always refer to Technical Data Sheet TFP700 for the "INSTALLER WARNING' that provides cautions with respect to handling and instal- lation of sprinkler systems and com- ponents. Improper handling and in- stallation can permanently damage a sprinkler system or its compo- nents and cause the sprinkler to fail to operate in a fire situation or cause it to operate prematurely. Page 1 of 8 mospheres. Although corrosion resis- tant coated sprinklers have passed the standard corrosion tests of the appli- cable approval agencies, the testing is not representative of all possible cor- rosive atmospheres. Consequently, it is recommended that the end user be consulted with respect to the suitability of these coatings for any given corro- sive environment. The effects of ambi- ent temperature, concentration of chemicals, and gas /chemical velocity, should be considered, as a minimum, along with the corrosive nature of the chemical to which the sprinklers will be exposed. An intermediate level versions of the Series TY FRB Pendent Sprinklers are detailed in Technical Data Sheet TFP356, and Sprinkler Guards are de- tailed in Technical Data Sheet TFP780 WARNINGS The Series TY -FRB Sprinklers de- scribed herein must be installed and maintained in compliance with this document, as well as with the applica- ble standards of the National Fire Pro- tection Association, in addition to the standards of any other authorities hav- ing jurisdiction. Failure to do so may impair the performance of these de- vices. The owner is responsible for maintain- ing their fire protection system and de- vices in proper operating condition. The installing contractor or sprinkler manufacturer should be contacted with any questions. Sprinklers that are found to be leaking or exhibiting visible signs of corrosion must be replaced. Automatic sprinklers must never be painted, plated, coated or otherwise altered after leaving the factory. Modi- fied sprinklers must be replaced. Sprinklers that have been exposed to corrosive products of combustion, but have not operated, should be replaced if they cannot be completely cleaned by wiping the sprinkler with a cloth or by brushing it with a soft bristle brush. Care must be exercised to avoid dam- age to the sprinklers - before, during, and after installation. Sprinklers dam- aged by dropping, striking, wrench twist/slippage, or the like, must be re- placed. Also, replace any sprinkler that has a cracked bulb or that has lost liquid from its bulb. (Ref. Installation Section). Frequent visual inspections are rec- ommended to be initially performed for corrosion resistant coated sprinklers, after the installation has been com- pleted, to verify the integrity of the cor- rosion resistant coating. Thereafter, annual inspections per NFPA 25 should suffice; however, instead of in- specting from the floor level, a random sampling of close -up visual inspec- tions should be made, so as to better determine the exact sprinkler condi- TFP171 2 -7/8' DIA. 5/811/4' (73,0 mm) 3/4' (19,1 mm) (15,9±6,4 mm) 2 -1 /4' DIA. 1/4' (6,4 mm) FACE OF (57,2 mm) MOUNTING SPRINKLER PLATE FITTING 1/8' (3,2 mm) MOUNTING SURFACE CLOSURE SERIES 1 -1/4' (31,8 mm) TY -FRB 3/4"(19,1 mm) FIGURE 9 SERIES TY -FRB RECESSED PENDENT WITH TWO -PIECE 314 INCH TOTAL ADJUSTMENT STYLE 10 RECESSED ESCUTCHEON 5.6 K- FACTOR, 112 INCH NPT 2 -7/8' DIA. 5/8 ±1/4' ( mm) 3/4"(19,1 mm) (15,9±6,4 mm) 2 -1/4' DIA. 1/4' (6,4 mm) FACE OF (5 mm) MOUNTING SPRINKLER PLATE FITTING 1/8' (3,2 mm) MOUNTING SURFACE CLOSURE SERIES 1 -5/16' (33,3 mm) TY -FRB 13116' (20,6 mm) FIGURE 11 SERIES TY -FRB RECESSED PENDENT WITH TWO -PIECE 314 INCH TOTAL ADJUSTMENT STYLE 40 RECESSED ESCUTCHEON &0 K- FACTOR, 314 INCH NPT tion and the long term integrity of the corrosion resistant coating, as it may be affected by the corrosive conditions present. Patent Number 5,188,185 may be applicable to the Series DS -1, 5.6 K- factor, Quick and Standard Re- sponse, Extended Coverage Horizon- tal Sidewall, Dry Type Sprinklers Operation When the Series DS -1 is in service, water is prevented from entering the assembly by the Plug & Belleville Seal- ing Assembly (Ref. Figure 1) in the Inlet of the Sprinkler. The glass Bulb contains a fluid that expands when ex- posed to heat. When the rated tem- perature is reached, the fluid expands sufficiently to shatter the glass Bulb, and the Bulb Seat is released. The compressed Spring is then able to ex- pand and push the Water Tube as well as the Guide Tube outward. This action simultaneously pulls inward on the Yoke, withdrawing the Plug & Belleville Seal from the Inlet allowing the sprin- kler to activate and flow water. NOTE Do not install the Series DS -1 into any other type fitting without first consult- ing the Technical Services Depart- ment. Failure to use the appropriate fitting may result in: failure of the sprin- kler to properly operate due to forma- tion of ice over the inlet Plug or binding of the inlet Plug; or, insufficient en- gagement of the inlet pipe threads with consequent leakage. Branch, cross, and feedmain piping connected to Dry Sprinklers and sub- ject to freezing temperatures must be pitched for drainage in accordance with the minimum requirements of the National Fire Protection Association for dry pipe sprinkler systems. When Dry Sprinklers are to be used in wet pipe sprinkler systems protecting areas subject to freezing temperatures (e.g., horizontal extensions into freez- ers), consideration must be given to the appropriate length of the sprinkler that will prevent freezing of the water in the connecting pipes due to conduc- tion. When the temperature surround- ing the wet pipe sprinkler system is maintained at a minimum temperature of 40 °F /4 1 C, the following are the mini- mum recommended lengths between the face of the sprinkler fitting and the outside surface of the protected area (i.e., length exposed to minimum am- bient of 40 °F /4 0 C): • 12 inches (300 mm) when the tem- perature within the protected area is - 20 °F / -29 °C • 18 inches (450 mm) when the tem- perature within the protected area is - 40 °F / -40 °C • 24 inches (600 mm) when the tem- perature within the protected area is -60'F/-51'C For protected area temperatures be- tween those given above, the minimum ORDER LENGTHS: 2-1/2" to 48" 4" t 1/8" (63,5 to (6,4 mm) (101,6 t 3,2 mm) IN 1/4" INCREMENTS FACE OF _ FACE OF MOUNTING SPRINKLER 1-3/4" DIA. NOTE When Dry Sprinklers penetrate a wall into an area subject to freezing, the clearance space around the Sprinkler Casing must be completely sealed in order to prevent the leakage of moist air into the freezing area which might result in the formation of condensate around the Frame, Deflector, Bulb Seat, or Bulb. Failure to prevent the formation of condensate could result in the build -up of ice around the releasing components. This could result in an inadvertent operation of the sprinkler or impaired operation due to reduced thermal sensitivity. Page 4 of 6 Installation The Series DS -1 Dry Type Sprinklers must be installed in accordance with the following instructions: NOTES The Series DS -1 must only be installed in fittings that meet the requirements of the Design Criteria section. Refer to the Design Criteria section for other important requirements regard- ing piping design and sealing of the clearance space around the Sprinkler Casing. Do not install any bulb type sprinkler if the bulb is cracked or there is a loss of liquid from the bulb. With the sprinkler held horizontally, a small air bubble should be present. The diameter of the air bubble is approximately 1116 inch (1,6 mm). A leak tight 1 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained with a torque of 20 to 30 ft. lbs. (26,8 to 40,2 Nm). Higher levels of torque may distort the sprin- kler inlet with consequent leakage or impairment of the sprinkler. Do not attempt to compensate for in- sufficient adjustment in an Escutcheon Plate by under- or over - tightening the Sprinkler. Readjust the position of the sprinkler fitting to suit. Step 1. Horizontal sidewall sprinklers are to be installed in the horizontal position with their centerline of water- way perpendicular to the back wall and parallel to the ceiling. The word "TOP" on the Deflector is to face towards the ceiling. Step 2. With pipe thread sealant ap- plied to the inlet threads, hand tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting. Step 3. Wrench tighten the sprinkler by wrenching on the Casing with a pipe wrench whenever the casing is readily accessible. Otherwise, use a W -Type 7 Sprinkler Wrench (Ref. Figure 3). The wrench recess of the W -Type 7 is to be applied to the sprinkler wrench flats (Ref. Figure 3). Step 4. After the wall has been in- stalled /finished, slide on the outer piece of the Escutcheon until it comes in contact with the ceiling /wall. Care and Maintenance The Series DS -1 Dry Type Sprinklers must be maintained and serviced in accordance with the following instruc- tions: NOTES Absence of the outer piece of an es- cutcheon, which is used to cover a clearance hole, may delay the time to sprinkler operation in a fire situation. Before closing a fire protection system main control valve for maintenance work on the fire protection system that it controls, permission to shut down the affected fire protection systems must be obtained from the proper authori- ties and all personnel who may be affected by this action must be notified. A Vent Hole is provided in the Bulb Seat (Ref. Figure 1) to indicate if the Dry Sprinkler is remaining dry. Evi- dence of leakage from the Vent Hole is an indication that there may be weepage past the Inlet seal and that the sprinkler needs to be removed for determining the cause of leakage (e.g. an improper installation or an ice plug). The fire protection system control valve must be closed and the system drained before removing the sprinkler. Sprinklers that are found to be leaking or exhibiting visible signs of corrosion must be replaced. Automatic sprinklers must never be painted, plated, coated, or otherwise altered after leaving the factory. Modi- fied sprinklers must be replaced. Sprinklers that have been exposed to corrosive products of combustion, but have not operated, should be com- pletely cleaned by wiping the sprinkler with a cloth or by brushing it with a soft bristle brush. Care must be exercised to avoid dam- age - before, during, and after instal- lation. Sprinklers damaged by drop- ping, striking, wrench twist/slippage, or the like, must be replaced. Also, replace any sprinkler that has a cracked bulb orthat has lost liquid from its bulb (Ref. Installation Section). The owner is responsible for the in- spection, testing, and maintenance of their fire protection system and de- vices in compliance with this docu- ment, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Protec- tion Association (e.g., NFPA 25), in addition to the standards of any other authorities having jurisdiction. The in- stalling contractor or sprinkler manu- facturer should be contacted relative to any questions. TFPS2O It is recommended that automatic sprinkler systems be inspected, tested, and maintained by a qualified Inspection Service. WWP UL/FM Butterfly Valves 1 1 Series 716 Vic - Check Valves PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Sizes 2 & 3" C= Sizes 4 -12" DIMENSIONS VICTAULC' IS AN ISO 9001 CERTIFIED COMPANY The Series 716 check valve is a product of computer- assisted innovative engineering with quality features including a new hydrodynamically efficient profile. Available in sizes 2 - 12'765 - 300 mm, the Vic - Check' valve utilizes a spring- assisted, single -disc design that achieves a leak -free seal with as little as 5 ft. /1.5 m of head. The valve can be installed in both horizontal and vertical positions. Series 716 check valves are engineered for long life and seize -free sealing. In sizes 2 and 3"/65 and 80 mm, the elastomeric seal, mounted on the aluminum bronze disc, seats against the machined area of the body, which is completely coated with polyphenylene sulphide (PPS). Sizes 4 - 12 "1100 - 300 mm feature an elastomer - encapsulated disc and a welded -in nickel seat. Every valve is factory tested to its working pressure of 300 p5i /2065 kPa. Drains are provided both upstream and downstream of the disc. Grooved ends allow fast, easy installation with just two Victaulic couplings. The valve may also be connected to flanged (ANSI Class 150) components using Style 741 Vic - Flange adapters on either end. The grooved end design permits fast, easy installation. The seat provides leak -free sealing under conditions as low as five feet of head. Cv values for flow of water at +60 °F / +1 6 °C with a fully open valve are shown in the table at right. NOTE: Placement of check valves too close to sources of unstable Flow will shorten the life of the valve and potentially may damage the system. To extend valve life, valves should be installed a reasonable distance downstream from pumps, elbows, expanders, reducers or other similar devices. Sound piping practices dictate a minimum of five (5) times the pipe diameter for general use.
