Scope of Work
interior remodel that consists of no structural changes. Exterior windows will be
changed to match rough openings but the windows comply with UV .35 energy code.
Electricai changes include adding can and pendant lighting to the kitchen lid and a
ceiling fan in the loft. Plumbing changes include a new electric hot water heater
and kitchen fixtures. The locations of all rough plumbing wiil not change. The three
bathrooms remain as they are. The kitchen and bathroom #1 will have new
cabinets and counter tops. All interior door rough openings will remain the same.

FINAL REPORT
ON ASBEST4S ABATEMENT
1.0 Introduction
This report represents the cieazance of the asbestos abatement of ceiIings that would have to be
removed before renovation activities are conducted in a condominium unit, at 508 E. Lions
Head, Vail Colorado 8165? completed on Friday, May 12, 201 l. This report includes the
measurements, observations and conclusions af the visual clearance and air monitoring reqz.ured
by the Colorado Department of Public Heaith and Enviranment (CDPHE).
At the request of Quetzal Envuonmental, (Quetzal), 4278 S. Ireland Ct., Aurora, Co 80215,
(Telephone #303-956-8587} a final visuai and air clearance was conduct�d to finalize the work
that entailed removing ceiling texture that was suspected of containing asbestos.
2.0 Regalatory Guidance
Federal environmentat regulations relating to asbestas in buiIdings can be found in the National
Emissions Sta.ndards for Hazardous A.ir Poilutants (NESHAP). NESHt�P requires the removal
of all friable (that is materials that can be cnunbled or reduced to powder when dry by hand
pressure) asbestos prior to the renovation or demolition. In Colorado, NESHAP is enforced
through Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). Under Regulation
8, The Control of Asbestos, a11 friable asbestos containing materials (ACM) must be removed
prior to renovation, espeeialIy those that may be disturbed by the demolition activities. In this
case the ceilings had to be abated prior to a planned remodeling of the condomittium uni�
3.0 Worker Safety
Federai Department of Labor, Occupational Safefy and Health Administration (OSHA}
regulations require that employees performing abatement be protected from exposure to asbestos
during asbestos abatement aperadons. Compliance included the use of disposable suits, cartridge
respirators, and gloves. AII abatement work was performed within a posted regulated area under
the constant s�pervision of a CDPHE Class I competent person. All workers were CDPHE
certified and trained in worker safety.
5.0 Project Performance
Quetzal isolated the entire work area; a full containment with a two chambered waste load out
and hot water shower was set up for the abatement of the walls in the main and upstairs level.
Quetzal used polyethylene sheeting, isolating a11 cracks aud crevices that may have transmitted
air out of the wark area into other part of the building or into the open air. A negative pressure
machine was installed in order to remove the wa11 material so that a11 air flowed into the
containment azea at least four times per hour where it was HEPA filtered to a purity factor of
99.97% and e�austed to the outside_
6.0 Projeet Air Monitoring Per�'ormance
Aggressive clearance air samples were acquired after an intense visua.l inspection verified that
there was no visibte dust or debris in the immediate area being abated. Laboratory eva.luatian
indicated fiber levels below Colorado regulatory standards, (MAAL) indicatin� a successful
abatement. In fact it is my opinion that nothing migrated out of the work area at all. This apinion
is based on the resutt of the air sample anatysis and the visuat inspection. The asbestas abaternent
event was completed Friday, May 12, 2011.
7.0 Sample Analysis
A total of 7(seven) air samples, including iaboratory and field blanks, were analyzed according
to National Institutes of Occupational Sa%ty and Health (NIOSH} Method 7404 Protocols. This
protocol, recognized as a state of the art method for analysis of ambient air monitoring samples
for asbestos abatement, iridicates a total fiber level, or count, including but not limited to
asbestos fibers. Analytical results of the air samples indicate that no fiber cour�ts were above the
CDPHE M�imum Allowable Asbestos Level (MAAI.) in a Public Access Area, which is
presently set at 0.01 fibers per cubic centimeter of air. All five (S/S} of the samples were below
the MAAL.
This, along with an intense visual inspection, verifies that the removal of the ACM was
successfiil.
Furthermore all asbestos containing waste was properly disposed of in clearly nnarked bags and
taken to the regulated landfill. Quetzal Environmental maintains a copy of the waste manifest in
its records.

8.4 Conclusions and Recommendations
This was a successful abatement and there is no indication that any dust or debris of any kind
migrated out of the work area into any other part of the condominium, into any other part of the
building, or a�tside the containment to the open air.
