Construction Activities/Observations: Engineer arrived on site, as requested, to observe the installation of the
micropiles along the west side of the existing parking garage. The pile group consists of 3 piles which are
located approximately 6 feet west of Gridline E.0/1.0.
At the time of our observation, the micropiles were installed to a depth of 43 feet form ground surface. The
piles were installed using a Williams 32x injection bar and the specified grout. The subsurface conditions
encountered during installation consisted of 18 feet of existing fill followed by native, dense to very dense, silty
sands and gravels with scattered cobbles and boulders. The existing fill is characterized by dense, silty sand and
gravel with scattered cobbles, boulders, and organics. Drilling was stopped in arder to obtain additional
materials for the piles located on the north side of the parking garage. Engineer will resume observation
tomorrow morning.
Based on our observations, it is our opinion that the three micropiles installed along the west side of the existing
parking garage, approximately 6 feet west of Gridline E.0/1.0, have been installed in accordance with plans and
specifications.

Construction Activities/Observations: Engineer arrived on site, as requested, to observe the installation of the
micropiles for the proposed pedestrian bridge at the Lionshead Transit Center in Vail, Colorado.
At the time of our observation, the micropiles located north of Gridline A.0-E.0 and in the area of Gridlines
E.0/1.0-3.0 were installed using a Williams 51 injection bar and the specified grout. The westernmost pile in
this location was installed to a depth of 50 feet from ground surface. Due to very dense cobbles and boulders
encountered during drilling at the 30 to 50 foot interval, Yeh and Associates approved a reduced minimum
penetration into native soils of 20 feet. The remaining piles at this location were drilled to a depth of 40 feet
from ground surface.
The micropiles located north of Gridline A.0-E.0 and in the area of Gridlines E.0/3.0-3.3 were installed using
the same method. The piles at this location were drilled to a depth of 35 feet from ground surface to obtain the
required 30 foot penetration into native soils.
Based on our observations, it is our opinion that the micropiles installed north of Gridline A.0-E.0 and in the
area of Gridlines E.0/1.0-3.3 have been installed in accordance with project plans and specifications.
