Project: Lionshead Transit Center,Vail, Colorado
Weather: Sunny ❑ Cloudy ❑ Rain ❑ Snow Temp: 70°F±
Construction Activities/Observations: Field engineer arrived on site, as requested, to observe a proof-roll for the
westbound lane of Frontage Road between Sta. 6+50 and Sta. 10+00.
The proof-roll was performed using a fully loaded water truck. The area observed was at grade and consisted of full
depth reclaimed pulverized asphalt inillings.
At the time of this observation, field engineer observed no pumping or rutting of the material at grade.
Based on our observations, it is our opinion that the westbound lane of Frontage Road between Sta. 6+50 and Sta.
10+00 has been properly prepared and has met project specifications.

Construction Activities/Observations: Field engineer arrived on site, as requested, and observed the excavation in
the ECO Building area along Gridlines A.0-C.0/8.0 with Brandon of FCI.
Field engineer observed a trackhoe removing fill to a depth of approximately 10 feet in order to identify the elevation of
natural soil.
At the time of this observation, field engineer encountered native material at the same elevation from the southeast
comer to the northeast corner of the proposed building.
The fill present in these areas will need to be removed and compacted at 98 percent of the maximum standard Proctor
density in the areas beneath all footings.
Based on our observations, it is our opinion that the excavation for the ECO Building area along Gridlines A.0-C.0/8.0
has not been properly prepared and has failed to meet project specifications.

The excavation varied in depth from approximately 10.0 to 10.5 feet from the adjacent ground surface. The material

Weather: Sunny ❑ Cloudy ❑ Rain ❑ Snow Temp: 50°F±
Construction Activities/Observations: Engineer arrived on site, as requested, to observe the material exposed in the
excavation for the proposed ECO Building and verify the depth to native materiaL
At the time of our observation, the excavation was approximately 15 to 18 feet in depth from the adjacent street level
elevation. Exposed soils consisted of existing fill to an approximate depth of 15 to 17 feet followed by native soil to the
maximum depth excavated of 18 feet. Tle existing fill consists of black, brown, tan, moist, medium dense to dense, silty
sand with cobbles, boulders, organics, and deleterious materials. The native soil consists ofpink, brown, moist, dense,
slightly silty, sand and gravel with scattered cobbles and boulders.
Based on our observations, it is our opinion that the foundation excavation at the base of the existing north wall of the
parking garage is bearing on the native, slightly silty, sand and gravel with scattered cobbles and boulders. The
remainder of the footing excavations for the proposed ECO Building needs to be excavated past the existing fill and
extend into the native slightly silty, sand and gravel with scattered cobbles and boulders.

in the excaation for the continuous footings 14'-4"West of Gridlines A.0-C.0/1.0-8.5 for the Eco Building.
The excavation varied in depth from approximately 15 feet to 18 feet from the adjacent ground surface. The material

This report prosents opinions formed as a result of our observations and/or compaction testing of the fill during this visit.
We have relied on the contractar to continue applying the recommended compactive effort and moisture to the fill durig
times when our observer is not observing operations. Tests are made of the fill only as belicved necessary to calibrate our
observer's'ud*ment Test data are not the sole basis for o inions on whether the till meets s ecifications.
