The two (2) lower western most piers do not have sufficient frost protection. I recommend that you place two layers of 1-1/2" Styrofoam extending at least 12" in all directions where the dirt coverage is less than the recommended frost protection of 48". They should be enlarged and #4 rebar j should be drilled and friction fit into the existing footing I approximately ever 8". The existing footing should also be ' covered with two layer of 1-1/2" Styrofoam to achieve adequate frost protection. The footing dowels are to be three full height #4 rebar drilled and epoxied into the footings to a minimum depth of 6" per the epoxy manufacturers recommendations . The front pier near the lower planter wall is close to the planter wall and will need to have the footing & pier insulated as well. This pad will be approx. 2' -6" sq. with #5 rebar 8" o. c. , E.W. We have scheduled a site visit on afternoon of Thursday, Sept . 8, 2011 to verify the insulat�on work.
