REVISOR
1305.1503 SECTION 1503, WEATHER PROTECTION.
130.1503
Subpart 1. IBC Section 1503.4. IBC Section 1503.4 is amended to read as follows:
1503.4 Roof drainage. Design and installation of roof drainage systems shall comply with
Minnesota Rules, chapter 4715, Minnesota Plumbing Code, and the following provisions:
1. Where required. All roofs shall drain into a separate storm sewer system or to an
approved place of disposal. For one- and two-family dwellings, and where approved,
storm water is permitted to discharge onto flat areas, such as streets or lawns, provided
that the storm water flows away from the building.
2. Roof design. Roofs shall be designed for the maximum possible depth of «ater
that will pond thereon as determined by the relative levels of roof deck and overflow
eirs, scuppers, edges, or serviceable drains in combination with the deflected structural
elements. In determining the maximum possible depth of water, all primary roof drainage
means shall be assumed to be blocked.
3. Secondary drainage required. Secondary (emergency) roof drains or scuppers shall
be provided vhere the roof perimeter construction extends above the roof in such a
manner that water will be entrapped if the primary drains allow buildup for any reason.
4. Separate systems required. Secondary (emergency) roof drain systems shall have
piping and point of discharge separate from the primary system. Discharge shall be above
grade in a location which would normally be observed by the building occupants or
maintenance personnel.
5. Sizing of secondary drains. Secondary (emergency) roof drain systems shall be sized
in accordance with the Minnesota State Plumbing Code. Scuppers shall be sized to
prevent the depth of ponding water from exceeding that for which the roof was designed
as determined by this code. Scuppers shall not have an opening dimension of less than
4 inches (102 inm). The flow through the primary sys*_em shall not be considered when
sizing the secondary roof drainage system.
Subp. 2. IBC Section 1503.41. IBC Section 1 03.4.1 is deleted in its entirety.

INTRODUCTION
Factory Mutual Research Corporation has successfully tested the Duro-Last Roofing System for classification
as a Class 1 roof covering. The roof covering has passed tests designed to measure fire spread, hail
damage, and wind uplift resistance characteristics, when installed as specified below. Evaluations of wind
uplift resistance characteristics provide measurements of the ability of the roof assembly to survive air
pressure loads on the rooftop that result from high wind speeds. Factory Mutual wind uplift resistance
classifications are designed as I-60 to I-495. These numbers represent the pounds per square foot of upward
load on the roof assembly. As an example, the I-60 rating means that the specified assembly may be able to
resist uplift pressures of up to 60 Ibs., depending on topography and building structure.
This roof covering is approved only when attached as tested over specific insulation, decks or existing covers.
Because fire spread, wind uplift, hail damage, and weather resistance characteristics are highly dependent
upon the substrate to which the roof cover is attached. The determination of the compatibility of the roof cover
with other roofing components within the construction shalf be the responsibility of the listed manufacturer,
who shall be consulted prior to their use.
The following roof cover system is approved as designed for use over specific substrates as indicated by
these five categories, unless otherwise specified:
1. Structural or insulating concretes.
2. Existing roof cover.
3. Insulation on steel roof deck.
4. Insulation over FM-approved fire treated wood.
5. FM approved wood decks.
MEMBRANE DESCRIPTION
The 40 mil (1 mm) thick Duro-Last single-ply membrane is a non-wicking weft inserted polyester fabric
encapsulated between two layers of specially formulated polyvinylchloride compound and has a system
weight of .25 Ibs./sq. ft. (1.22 kg/mZ). The fabricated roof cover is supplied either folded or rolled in sections of
up to 2,500-sq. ft. (232 m2) in area. The thermoplastic coating formulation is on file at Factory Mutual
Research Corporation.
For all FM uplift design pressures, the membrane and insulation fastening must be increased at the roof
perimeters and corners. The perimeter width (x) is defined as the lesser of either 40% of the building eave
height or 10% of the width of the roof area, but in no case less than 3'-0" wide. The corner is defined as (x by
x). Note:Duro-LasYs minimum requirement is a perimeter no /ess than 4' 0" from a perimeter edge.
The tab spacing in the perimeter sheets shall be no greater than 60% of the tab spacing in the field of
the roof. The tab spacing in the corner sheets shall be no greater than 40% of the tab spacing in the
field sheets. Call the Engineering Services Department for details. See "Figure A" on Page FM-2.
For Insulation attachment:
Refer to the "FM Global Loss Prevention Data Sheet 1-29" for the minimum requirements on attaching
insulation. NOTE: In some cases, the presence of a vapor barrior will change requirements for fastening.
Note: 2-fasteners shall be used to attach insulation having both dimensions no greater than 4-feet (1.2 m). 4-
fasteners shall be used to attach insulation having any one dimension greater than 4-feet (1.2 m). Duro-
LastO will require a minimum of 5 fasteners per board, which may exceed FM requirements.
Facto Mutua/ R uirements FM-1 Se tember 2005
INSTALLATION
For the mechanically fastened system, the membrane in the fieid of the roof shall be mechanically fastened
by the 3-inch (76 mm) wide securement tabs using Duro-LastO FM approved fasteners as described below
through the FM approved insulation and into the deck. Adjoining sheets of the roof cover shall be overlapped
a minimum 6-inches (150 mm) onto the previously secured section of roof cover. All fastening tabs and sheet
edges shall be secured with Duro-LastO FM approved fasteners or hot-air welded to the secured edge of an
adjoining sheet. Field seam welds shall be sealed with a heat-sealing apparatus forming a continuous 1.5-
inch (38 mm) wide weld.

For the fully adhered system, the membrane in the field of the roof shall be attached to approved insulations
by the Duro-Last adhesives, and the insulation shall be attached using Duro-LastO FM approved fasteners or
adhesives in conjunction with FM approved insulation onto the deck. Adjoining sheets of the roof cover shall
be overlapped a minimum 6-inches (150 mm) onto the previously secured section of roof cover. All required
fastening tabs shall be secured with Duro-LastO FM approved fasteners or hot-air welded to the secured
edge of an adjoining sheet. Field seam welds shall be sealed with a heat-sealing apparatus forming a
continuous 1.5-inch (38 mm) wide weld.
FIELD MEMBRANE AND INSULATION INSTALLATION FOR FULLY ADHERED' SYSTEMS
' Coverage on Duro-Last WB adhesive shall be applied no less than 80 Sq. Ft. per gallon
' Wood Decks must be FM approved and require a minumum of 1/4" Dens Deck placed loose on the deck under the insulation assembly unless noted.
Facto Mutual Re uirements FM-3 Se tember 2005
Example:
If a building has a 20 ft. (6.1 m) eave height, and its dimensions are 100 ft. (30.5 m) by 200 ff. (61 m), the
perimeter width would be 8 ft. (.4-times the building height which is less than .1-times the width or 10 ft.)
The corner areas would be 8 ft. by 8 ft., min.

GUIDELINES FOR INSTALLATION COMPLIANCE
INTRODUCTION
UL's testing of roofing systems is for the purpose of leading to a program of classification and involves much
more than merely testing the product in accordance with a designated standard. It includes the identification
of and selection of materials to be tested at the factory where the product is manufactured. It also involves
the implementation of an ongoing program of unannounced inspections at the factory, countercheck tests to
verify, on a continuing basis, that the product, as produced, is identical to the product as tested, and the
preparation of a detailed inspection document if the product is found to conform.
APPROVED DECK TYPES
Combustible Roof Decks
- Wood Plank
- Plywood
- Oriented Strand Board (OSB)
- Chip Board
- Cementitious Wood Fiber
("Tectum" - less than 2" thick)
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Noncombustible Roof Decks
- Steel
- Aluminum
- Structural Concrete
(PIP, pre-cast, plank, channel slab, T's, Etc.)
- Lightweight / Cementitious Wood Fiber
(Gypsum, "Tectum" 2" thick or greater)
• The required thickness of OSB, plywood, etc. is 7/16", minimum.
• 1/4" nonstructural glass mat gypsum roof board may be used in lieu of 1/2" gypsum wallboard.
• UL Classified gypsum wallboard, any thickness, may be included in any roofing system without adversely
affecting the classification.
RECOVER/REROOF
Classified insulated systems may be installed over existing Classified insulated systems when:
1. The new system is classified for use with the existing roof insulation type (glass fiber, perlite, wood
fiber, polyisocyanurate, etc.) and
2. The total thickness of insulation in both systems does not exceed the maximum specified for the new
system being applied.
UL STANDARDS FOR EXTERNAL FIRE TESTING FOR ROOF COVERINGS (UL 790)
These requirements cover the performance of roof covering materials exposed to fire conditions that are
intended to determine the fire-resistance and bum characteristics of roe# eaveings when exposed to firg
originating from sources outside of a building which the coverings are installed. The UL 790 rates roof
coverings as having either Class "A", "B", or "C" fire ratings. Below, there is a description of the test criteria
as outlined by UL 790 testing:
Saread of flame Test Criteria:
• Class A(10 Minutes Exposure) - 6 Ft. (1.8-m) Maximum flame spread
• Class B(10 Minutes Exposure) - 8 Ft. (2.4-m) Maximum flame spread
• Class C(4 Minutes Exposure) - 13 Ft. (4.0-m) Maximum flame spread
Burninq Brand Test Criteria:
• Class A- 2000 grams (Approx. 4.5 Lbs.)
• Class B- 500 grams (Approx. 1.1 Lbs.)
• Class C- 9.25 grams (Approx. 0.3 Lbs.)
UL-S cifications UL-1 Se tember 2003
Intermittent Flame Test Criteria:
• Class A- 15 Cycies (2minutes on, 2 minutes of
• Class B- 8 Cycles (2minutes on, 2 minutes off)
• Class C- 3 Cycles (2minutes on, 2 minutes of
Test Results:
Class A- Roof coverings are effective against severe fire test exposures. Under such exposures, the roof
coverings of this class are not readily flammable, afford a fairly high degree of fire protection to the roof deck,
do not slip from position, and are not expected to produce flying brands.
Class B- Roof coverings are effective against moderate fire test exposures. Under such exposures, roof
coverings of this class are not readily flammable, afford a moderate degree of fire protection to the roof deck,
do not slip from position, and are not expected to produce flying brands.
Class C- Roof covering are effective against light fire test exposures. Under such exposures, roof coverings
of this class are not readily flammable, afford a measurable degree of fire protection to the roof deck, do not
slip from position, and are not expected to produce flying brands.
UL APPROVED CERTIFICATION LISTINGS (TGFU.R10128)
Duro-Last has approved class A, B and C listings for both combustible and noncombustible deck assemblies.
For the most up-to-date assemblies, contact the Duro-Last Engineering Department or visit Underwriters
Laboratories web site, www.ul.com. Once there, go to"Certifications" and search company name "Duro-LasY'.
UL APPROVED "P" ASSEMBLIES (CHCI.R10128)
The resistance of a building to intemal sources of fire has been extensively tested and classified at
Underwriters Laboratories. Classification of wall, floor/ceiling assemblies can be divided into different series
based on the fire protection used in the assembly.
It should be noted that the roof inembrane forms only a small part of the total roof/ceiling assembly. In order
for a structure to qualify for a particular P-Assembly or Roof Deck Construction, ALL materials used to
construct the assembly (including roof decking, ceiling materials, light fixtures, duct work and structural
support members) must be UL Classified and installed as described in the appropriate UL directories.
The Duro-LastO Roofing System is classified by Underwriters Laboratories as a surfacing material in
ballasted and mechanically fastened installations over the following sub-assembly design numbers:
