STRUCTURAL SPECIFICATIONS
1) Foundation design based upon "Gewtechnical Exploration- Proposed Ford park
Statue Foundation ", Job 409 -068 as prepared by KOECHLEIN CONSULTING
ENGINEERS, INC. dated November 19, 2009. Installation ofslab drains to
conform with soils report, field test drains before backfilling. All footings are to
bear upon natural undisturbed soil or compacted structural fill as approved by the
soils engineer.
2) All cast in place concrete must be made with Portland cement and attain
minimum compressive strength of4000 psi after 28 days. Design based upon
BUILDING CODE REQUIREMENTS FOR REINFORCED CONCRETE (ACI
318), 1999. Concrete placement to conform with "Construction Requirements" as
defined in ACI 318. All concrete slabs on grade must be provided control (scored
or cut) in accordance with soils report. All exposed edges ofconcrete shall have
/"_" chamfer.
3) Reinforcing steel is ASTM Grade 40. Reinforcement placement shall conform to
MANUAL OF STANDARD PRACTICE, 2001 as prepared by CRSI. All lap
splices to be minimum 36 bar diameters, all horizontal reinforcement to be
continuous around comers and at wall intersections. Minimum reinforcement
protection-

4) Structural steel shall be ASTM A36 or better. All structural steel is to be detailed,
fabricated, painted and erected in accordance with AISC STEEL
CONSTRUCI'lON MANUAL, 2005 and CODE OF STANDARD PRACTICE.
All welding to be performed by a certified welder and conform to AISC and AWS
STRUCTURAL WELDING CODE, 2000, all electrodes to be EE -70XX .
5) Live loads used for design-
- Slab -100 psf live plus 100 psf snow.
- Wind -90 mph (3 second gust), Exposure B.
-Earthquake-Zone C -IBC.
6) All construction must comply with the 2003 International Building Code as
adopted by the Town of Vail Building Department and the "General Conditions of
the Contract for Construction" (AIA Document A201). All construction must be
completed within the tolerances described in the "Residential Construction
Performance Guidelines" as prepared by the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF
ROME BUILDERS.
7) All structural members are shown in their final positions properly braced and
supported; during construction it may be necessary to temporarily shore portions
of the structure while other portions are being constructed. Contact the engineer
for consultation as required.
8) General Contractor is responsible for all non - specified connections, contact
engineer for details as required. The engineer is to approve all structural
substitutions.
9) General Contractor is responsible for the means, methods, techniques, sequences,
procedures, workmanship, seasonal scheduling and job -site safety associated with
this project. The General Contractor is to verify all dimensions and elevations
with the architectural drawings. Notify engineer of all conflicts and omissions
between various elements of the working drawings and the existing conditions
prior to commencing with that portion of the project.

10) All materials exposed to exterior and or moisture conditions shall be treated for
these conditions (i.e., chemical treatment, staining, painting, damproofing,
membranes, flashing, etc.) as required by code. All materials to be treated or
protected for fire resistance as required by code.
1 1) Grout specifications-
a) The mortar is to be Type S, with minimum cube strength of2000 psi after 28
days. The mortar is to be free of all admixtures, unless approved by the
engineer.

details. Cap Plate assembly must be rigidly connected to the concrete
reinforcement with the head of the assembly completely surrounded by concrete.

13) Special inspection to be completed by building official approved inspection
agency for poured -in -place concrete and reinforcing steel, soils and helical piers.
Inspection reports to be prepared in accordance with IBC Chapter 17 on approved
forms, verifying compliance with construction documents and be submitted to the
building official for review and approval, copying the owner, general contractor
and engineer. Coordinate inspections with general contractor so that special
inspections can be periodic rather than continuous.
