An application for Design Review cannot be accepted until all required information is received by the Commu-
nity development Department. Design Review approval expires one year from the date of approval, unless a
building permit is issued and construction commences.
Submittal Requirements:
1. Three (3) copies of all pertinent approved plans with illustrated, labeled changes
2. Joint Property Owner Written Approval Letter, if applicable.

This drawing is being submitted to you for review regarding the Smith Residence at 333 Beaver
Dam Road, Vail. I have spoken with Leonard Sandoval of Public Works and have been informed I
must present a drawing illustrating my request as well as out lining the reason for such a
request.
1. 1 have asked permission from Public Works to protect the water shut off from the snow
plow. The cylindrical base for the shut off valve has been struck and bent. It has since
been corrected. Mr. Sandoval informs me that he requires a minimum of 10' of clear
space from the edge of asphalt, five feet for the plow truck and five feet of snow
storage. I seek permission to protect this shut off valve with boulders held 10' back
from the edge of asphalt.
2. The existing spruce trees adjacent to the transformer and approximately 6 -8' behind
your street light are elevated between 18 -24 inches at the root crown. I seek
permission to retain this bank with small boulders all of which are 10 -11' back of edge of
asphalt as well as behind the street lamp.
The bank along the Southern section pass the new driveway has a walking space of 2 -3
feet and slopes from 4.4 -8.2% to the North. Given your needs for snow storage and the
priority for public safety, both pedestrian and automotive, I request permission to
create a safer area adjacent to the street edge. I would like to expand the
walkway /snowplow area to 6' in width. This would provide a 3 -4% constant slope for all
users. Using boulders of 1x1' and 1x2' held a minimum of 6" below asphalt grade, I
propose to create this walkway with road base and planted ground covers to enhance
the street scape. Beyond this fist wall, would be another wall 5 to 8' further north to
lessen the grade change and provide a safer transition from street scape to residence.
This second wall would be 12 -18 inches lower.
