However, this inlet is too low, and snow has the potential to block the inlet. Photo 1 shows the inlet with snow on top, and how the snow bank has almost blocked the inlet. Since blocking of the inlet would severely compromise the ability of the Treatment Facility's HVAC system to perform properly, the inlet needs to be raised. Due to constraints inside the Headworks Room, the inlet cannot be raised inside the room. Therefore the inlet needs to be raised outside. The proposed modification is to install new vertical duct to raise and reuse the existing inlet. This will elevate the existing inlet hood using new vertical rectangular duct. The top of the inlet hood would match the elevation of the top of the wall. The new ductwork would be painted to blend in with the existing wall. The general appearance of this is marked on Photo 2. This modification will have no impact on the performance of the existing HVAC system. The air flow will remain adequate and the HVAC system operation will remain satisfactory. We understand that the Town of Vail needs to review this modification since this is a visible modification to the Treatment Facility.
