(DSC) performed a limited asbestos inspection and collected asbestos bulk-samples from the single-family residence located at 15I7 Vail Valley Dr. V�il, Caiorado. The purpase of the inspection was to identify, sample and assess potentialty hazardous friabl� and non-friable asbestos-cantaining materials (AGM) within the main level master bedroom �nd master bathroam of the residence recently affeeted by water damaged and may be imp�cted by subsequent restoration activities. The Golorado Department of Public Heatth and Enviranment's (CDPHE) Regulation $, Part B defines an asbestos-containrny material �ACM) as a material containing more than 19�o asbestos. Ms. St�venson collected a total of six (b) t�ulk-s�mples within the residence. Ms. Stevenson Collected three (3) bulk-samples of white painted drywall surfacing texture �rom the upper level closet, three (3) bulk-sampl�s o� wallpapered drywall from the u�per level bakhroom. The asbestos bulk-samptes were analyzed by a Natianal Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) accredited !ab in Denver, Colorado (see Appendix B for laborQtory repor't). All of the bulk- samples eollected reported none-detect far asbestos. The limited asbestos inspectian and bulk-sampiing was conducted ta locate any asbestos-containing materials prior to these activities. The asbestas inspection and bufk-sampling was conducted by Ms. Stevenson with DSC. DSC is a Colorado State Certified Asbestos �onsulhng �irm, Registration No. 14912. Ms. Stevenson is a ColQrado State Certified Building Inspector, Accreditation No.18406 (see Appendrx A for certr�'icate). Ii. Structural Deslgn The residence is a wood-framed, multi-level, single-family residence with attacheci garage. ill. Sampling a�d Analytical Pracedures The inspection, assessment and samp�ing were condacted by an EPA and AHERA aecredited Building Inspector qu�lified by experience, edu�ation and training in the recognition of potential ACM and �ppraued bulk-sampling techniques. Th� asbestos bulk-sampling was conducted on suspect ACM with a iimited numb�r of bulk-samples being coll�cked within the residence, The inspection, assessment and sampling were performed in accordance with Environmental Proteetian Agency/AHERA recommended procedures. These procedures call for the visua! inspectian of the area af concern and the collection and analysis of representative bulk-samples of suspect maCerial. Some minor destructive s�mpling was conducted. Walls, columns and perimeter pipe chases were rtat broken into in ord�r ta locate and quantify suspect ACM. [t should be noted that addikional ACM might be located in these and other inaccessible areas. Random bulk-samples, representative af the suspect asbestos-�untaining building materials (ACBM) of each homog�neous area (HA), were collected according ta the guidelines published as Environmental protection Agency (EPA) �inal Rule: Title II of the Toxic Substances Cvntr�l ,A�ct (TSCA), �.5 USC, Sectians 2641 through 2b54 and in coinpliance with 40 CFR, Part 763. Representative sampling is based on the fallowing criteria: 1.) The distribution of the suspect material throughout the HA. 2.) The suspect m�terial's physical characteristics and application. 3.) Random sampling patterns determined for each HA. Suspect materials sampled and analyzed shauld be cansidered to be representative af materials in each HA if they exhibit similar physicai characteristics and the application af the sampled material can be correlated to the appticatlon of un-sampled materi�l. Bulk-s�mples collected were analyzed utilizing the �PA's �p� for tha nptp��natian pf Asbestos in BLlk BL�ildina Materials (EPA 600/R/�.16, July, 19�3) and th� McCrone Researcta Institute's The Asbestos Partrcle Atlu� as methads references. Analysis af the bufk-samples was perfarmed an the "date reported," as listed in the bulk-sample analysis repar� IV. Notes on Report �ormat Suspect materials alilce in appearance and application were sampled as homageneous areas. Suspect materials were divided into [hree classifi��tians: 1.) Surfacing Materral: sprayed or troweled onta structurai building msmber. 2.) Thermal System Insularion (TSI): any type of pipe, bviler, tank, or duct insulation. 3.) Candition assessments are listed in the foliawing section. Ratings of "good," "damaged," and "significantly damaged" are meant to indicate the overall condition af the material. A material in "good" condition has no visible damage or deterioration, ar showing only very limited damage or deterioration. A material in "damaged" condition has the Fotlowing characteristics: The surface is crumbling, blistered, water-stained, gouged, marred or otherwise abraded over less than one- tenth of the surface if the damage is evenly distributed (ane-quarter if the darnage is localized). Accumulation of powder, dust or debris similar in appearance to the suspect materiai on surEaces beneath the material can be used as confirmatory eviden�e. A material in "signiFcantly damaged" conditi�n has one or more of the fotlowing characteristirs: • The surface is crumbling ar blistered over at least one-tenth of the surface if th� damage is evenly distributed (ane-quarter if the darnage is localized), � One-tenth (one-quarter, if lacalized) of the material is hanging from the surface, deterior�ted, ar showing adhesive failure. • Water stains, gouges, or mars are over at least one-tenth af the surface if the damage is evenly distribuCed (ane-quarter if the dama�e is locaiized). Accumulation of powder, dust or debris similar in appearance td the suspect material an surfaces beneath the material �an he used as confirmatory evidence. Any sample reporting a"TRACE" amount of asbestos must be considered to be positive for asbestos greater than 1°10 uniess it is analyzed by the point-count method to be less than 1%. V. Inspector Comments No asbesios-containing material was idendfied during the bulk-sampling conducted at 15�7 Vaii Valley Dr. Vail, Colorado. Bulk-sarnples of the drywall surfacing textures and wallpaper on the walls of the upper level bathraom and closet wer� callected.
