The Superpave HM.4 job mi� formula was prepared in our Quality Control Department's main
laboratory on 618 Dike Road i;� Grand Tunction, Colorado. Our laborato�r is accreditee� a.nd
actively participates in the �ASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory's accreditation process. Our
quality systems including equipment calibration, trainina, and qualifications has been found to be
compliant «Tith �SHTO R18 and ASTM D3666 �uidelines. The personnel that performed the
individual tests herein hold cunent technician certifications for each test method by the Colorado
Asphalt Pavement �ssociation (CAFA) LabCAT pro�ram. Our laboratory and technicians meet
the requirements of the Colarado Department of Transportation's (CDOT) procedures CP-10,
Oualifications oJ Testing Personnel and Laboratories. The job mi� formula complies with CDOT
CP-�2, Cont�-actor-N1ix Desib 2 Approval Proceduf�es.

The hot mi� asphalt job mix formula was prepared using primarily CDOT Procedures utilizina the
�7atory� angle ���as set at 1.25 degrees ��ith
Superpave Gyratory Compactor (CP-L �11 S). The ��
100mm molds bein� used accordina to current CDOT specifications. The �sphalt Institute's
Supe�pave Level 1 1�1ix Lesign, S�:perpave Series No. ? (SP-?) reference �:�as also used in the
mi�ture development.
The designated ayratians were: N(initial) = 7, N(desian) = 7�. The mihing temperature was i 63
degrees C = 2.8 degrees C (32� = �° �') and the compaction temperature ���as 149 degrees C = 2.8
degrees C (300 i �°F). These temperaturzs are specified by CDOT procedure CP-L �11�, Table 1
in typical project special provisions, for the �rade of asphalt being used.
The Ir�dividual tes+ proced�res followed in the mixture development are referenced in the report
tables. The tests were performed and procedures followed in sunstantiai accordance to the
applicable specifications published by CDOT (CP and CP-L procedures), the Asphalt Institute (_AI
referencej, the American Association of State Highway and Transportatior_ Off cials (.�ASHTG�),
and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).

Asphai_t Cement
The PG 64-2? asphalt cement used in the mixture is a t�pically specified �rade in the local area. It
is aenerally accepted as adequate for the aeneral use anticipated for the mixture. Fallou�in� the
_4spha�t Institute's guidelines, use of a softer new binder �rade ��as not used to account for
incorporatinQ the a�ed and more viscous asphalt cement contained in the R�P. This is becausz the
a.mount of RAP used in the mi�:ture ���as held at or below 1�%.
