Use the East Vail bus route to access outlying spectator areas or for those wanting to walk up the race course on Old Highway 6. See map for details.ParkingSpectators will be directed to fill the Vail Village and Lionshead parking structures, followed by overflow parking on the North and South Frontage Roads (north side only) west of Vail Valley Drive. Use m.vail.com for real-time parking structure updates. Please arrive early as parking will be limited. On-street, neighborhood parking is prohibited. Public parking is not available in East Vail or Ford Park. No parking on I-70. Road closures will be in place from 11:45 a.m. to 4 p.m.Bicycle To avoid congestion, ride your bike into and around Vail. Be sure to get to your viewing spot in advance of the race start as the course will be closed to spectator bicyclists during the race. There are no alternative bike routes available from the east end of East Vail to the end of the race course on Old Highway 6. Free secure bike storage will be offered in Vail Village from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and in the west field of Ford Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on race day, courtesy of the Vail Valley Foundation and Vail Police volunteers. Spectator ViewingThe best viewing areas for the Time Trial will be along the course route in Vail Village and at the climb on Old Highway 6 to the finish. Ride your bike from Vail Village or head to the top of Vail Pass and ride down to the finish area. Don’t forget to bring your flags from all of the participating rider countries and cowbells to cheer on the riders. Bring water, sunscreen, a hat and plan for all types of weather. East Vail Residents: Consider hosting a viewing party and invite your friends and family to gather along the race route to cheer on the athletes. Guests should arrive prior to 11 a.m. and should plan to remain in the neighborhood until approximately 4:30 p.m. when traffic clears. Please arrange for alternative parking as no on-street parking permits will be available. Municipal ServicesTown of Vail municipal services will be limited on August 25 as town employees will be assisting with the Time Trial. Please call ahead to confirm available services, 479-2100. The municipal building parking lot will be closed during the day while it is used for emergency vehicle parking.Related Events & ActivitiesGuests to Vail and Avon have a special opportunity to watch two stages of the event with the Time Trial in Vail and a Stage Start in Avon the next day. They take an immediate left (south) onto Willow Bridge Road and then east at Checkpoint Charlie onto Gore Creek Drive passing through the heart of Vail Village. They turn north onto Vail Valley Drive and proceed up to the South Frontage Road East where they turn east paralleling I-70. This road continues for just over 3.5 miles to East Vail and turns into Bighorn Road. Riders continue east on Bighorn Road for approximately 2 miles until it turns into the “Old Highway 6” which is no longer used for vehicular traffic. It proceeds 4 miles up Vail Pass to the old cul-de-sac. AthletesUp to 136 riders will take part in the Vail Pass Time Trial with starts every 60 seconds until the last 10 riders who will start every 2 minutes. Prior to the start of the Time Trial, honorary forerunners will be riding the course.About the USA Pro Cycling ChallengeThe inaugural USA Pro Cycling Challenge takes place August 22-28, starting in Colorado Springs and traveling to Salida, Crested Butte/Mt. Crested Butte, Gunnison, Aspen, Vail, Avon, Steamboat Springs, Breckenridge and Golden, with the final finish in Denver. The race is expected to be the largest spectator event in Colorado history and one of the largest sporting events to ever take place in the United States. Spectators will see Olympians, World Champions and Tour de France competitors. The route continues on Bighorn Road to the intersection of Bridge Road. From there, buses travel onto Bridge Road, then Lupine Drive and Columbine Drive until intersecting with the race course along Bighorn Road. From there, buses will use Streamside Circle West to Streamside Circle East where they will follow the regular East Vail bus route (Meadow Drive to Main Gore Drive South). From Main Gore Drive South, the bus route will extend to Main Gore Circle and return to Juniper Lane until it connects with Meadow Drive after which it winds back through the residential neighborhood retracing the temporary eastbound route. The following East Vail bus stops will be serviced:• Bridge Road near Gore Creek (temporary); intersection of Lupine Drive and Columbine Drive (temporary); south of the intersection of Columbine Drive and Bighorn Road (temporary); Streamside Circle; Timber Falls; Vail Racquet Club; Bighorn Park; Meadow Lane East; Meadow Drive; Juniper Lane; near the intersection of Main Gore Drive and Gore Circle (temporary).In-Town Route• In-town bus service will use South Frontage Road in place of East Meadow Drive (Farmers Market route) with service to the Vail Transportation Center. Service to Vail Valley Drive and Golden Peak on the in-town route will be unavailable. ECO Regional TransitFree express ECO shuttle buses will run from the Beaver Creek parking lots to the Vail Transportation Center from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with 30-minute service. Free commemorative cowbells will be given to the first 2,000 passengers. Fencing will be used to separate the race course from the spectators. Designated crossings will be used for additional pedestrian access. Parking ClosuresThe top deck of the Vail Village parking structure will be closed from 6 a.m. Wednesday, August 24 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 25. Also, Ford Park upper parking lot will be closed from 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 24 to 8 a.m. Friday, August 26. Access to Ford Park, Vail Golf ClubTo access Ford Park, use Vail Transit to get to the nearest stop; walking will be required. For ADA access, call 479-2825. Access to and from the Vail Golf Club will flow in a one-way loop on Vail Valley Drive from the east end of the Village parking structure. To that end, we’re asking for your help in making adjustments to your daily routines to accommodate the race and our emphasis on keeping the racers and spectators safe. Road closures and traffic delays are a necessary component of the event. Access to Vail Village businesses and East Vail neighborhoods, in particular, will be impacted during much of the day. This race-day guide has been created to provide an overview of the traffic management operations that will be in place to help you plan ahead. We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation. Town of Vail GETTING AROUNDTemporary Road Closures 11:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. • All of South and North Frontage Roads will be closed from Vail Valley Drive (golf course bridge) east to East Vail.• All of Bighorn Road in East Vail will be closed. Use Columbine Drive for emergency-only access crossing.• I-70 East Vail Exit 180 off-ramps will be closed.• In Vail Village, Willow Bridge Road, Gore Creek Drive, Bridge Street, Hanson Ranch Road and East Meadow Drive will be closed to vehicles. Neighborhood Access Restrictions• Vail Valley Drive will have limited access in a one-way counter-clockwise direction during the race. Vehicles will be stopped at the intersection of Vail Valley Drive and Gore Creek Drive and at the east Vail Valley Drive intersection with South Frontage Road (golf course bridge) to allow racers to travel through the intersection.• No vehicles over 8 feet in width and 20 feet in length will be allowed past the entrance to the Vail Village parking structure during the race.• Westbound South Frontage Road from Vail Valley Drive (golf course bridge) west will be open during the race. • No parking will be allowed on town streets.• Emergency exiting from Booth Creek, Bald Mountain and East Vail neighborhoods will be accommodated by race and emergency service personnel.
