We have reviewed the mechanical information pertaining to the snowmelt upgrade for Pepi's
Deck. It is our understanding that you will be replacing the existing cast iron boiler with a new
high efficiency condensing boiler. Also some of the existing snowmelt tubing is Entran IIl,
which is leaking, and this tubing will be replaced with new Wirsbo hePex 5/8" tubing. There
will be no new snowmelted areas. Based on the provided information I am providing additional
requirements for this system.
1. The new boiler shall be vented with 4" PVC or CPVC pipe as directed in the installation
manual. The existing "B" vent for the removed boiler shall be used as a chase to route
the new flue up through the building and out the roof. Support the new flue as necessary.
Combustion air shall be taken from the room or route a 4" PVC pipe from the boiler to
the existing combustion air louver.
2. The new boiler has an input of 399 MBH and this boiler will replace a cast iron boiler
with an input of 476 MBH. The existing gas line will have adequate capacity for the new
boiler.
Install isolation valves for the new boiler and pumps to allow individual isolation of each
component.
4. Include circuit setters on piping to each manifold to allow balancing of the snowmelt
system.
5. Insulate new and existing exposed snowmelt piping with closed cell pipe insulation 2"
thick (R -7.4) on lines greater than 1 1 /2" diameter and 1 1 /2" thick (R -5.5) on lines 1
1/2" or smaller.
6. Include a condensate neutralization kit for the new condensing boiler.
7. Labor, materials, and equipment shall conform to the latest applicable editions of local,
State of Colorado, and National Codes and ordinances. If conflict between those
publications exists, the most stringent requirement shall apply.

8. Verify electrical service voltage and phase available before ordering any equipment.
9. Snowmelt piping —For non - buried piping, type U copper, wrought copper fittings, and no
lead solder.
10. Fill snowmelt system with 50% propylene glycol / 50% water solution, by volume, for
freeze protection to -28T and burst protection to < -60 °F. Include corrosion inhibitors.
11. Snowmelt system shall be pressure tested in accordance with tubing manufacturer's
instructions as required for warranty protection. In the absence of manufacturer's
instruction, pressurize the entire snowmelt system with compressed air. Charge system to
a pressure of not less than 80 psig or more than 100 psig. Pressure test shall last for 24
hours with not less than a 2 psig drop. With system air charged, soap test all joint on and
within the manifolds. After hydrostatic test pressure has been applied, examine piping,
joints and connections for leakage. Eliminate any leaks as necessary & re -test. Any
portion of tubing layout that rises as a result of being pressurized shall be re- secured to be
at the proper level within the slab structure when poured.
12. Entire snowmelt system shall be left pressurized with monitoring pressure gauge
throughout installation of concrete or sand/pavers. Continually monitor pressure on
system to make certain tubing system remains intact with no leaks or punctures.

Asbestos Testing &
Asbestos testing and abatement protects workers, homeowners, neighbors and emergency services responders from ex-
posure to harmful asbestos. It is your responsibility to be in compliance with the State. Please contact the State directly
for their requirements at the contact info listed below.
When is asbestos testing required?
ANY building projects disturbing more than these threshold levels of building materials require asbestos testing:
One- and Two - Family Dwellings: 32 square feet
All Others (commercial spaces, hotel rooms, etc): 160 square feet
Definition of a single - family dwelling: any dwelling unit that is used primarily for a single family, including
multi - family /condominium units, and fractional fee units.
Asbestos testing results must be provided with your application for a building permit.
Tests which identify POSITIVE results at more than 1% require abatement by a State - certified abatement contractor. The
clearance letter must be submitted to the Town of Vail before the building permit will be issued.

Tips & Facts:
• Even recent construction projects may include asbestos - containing materials, so buildings of gny age require testing.
• The "1989 Ban" on asbestos - containing materials is commonly misunderstood. "In fact, in 1991 the U.S. Fifth Circuit
Court of Appeals vacated much of the so- called "Asbestos Ban and Phaseout" rule and remanded it to the EPA. Thus,
much of the original 1989 EPA ban on the U.S. manufacturing, importation, processing, or distribution in commerce
of many asbestos - containing product categories was set aside and did not take effect." - CDPHE
